Criminal Justice Reform pushed by both Democrats and Republicans represents treason to the law abiding citizens of this nation, for it ensures violent criminals will be released into the public to prey upon us.
We aren’t tough enough on crime in America, where violent, homicidal, convicted criminals sit on death row for decades, instead of immediately being executed to serve as a reminder “punishment must be unusual or else it serves no purpose.”
And one of the biggest reasons we can’t be tough on crime in America is it would mean putting more black and brown in jail. Instead, as this incredible study on dismissed weapons charges in North Carolina, the judicial system in America seems designed to keep dangerous black and brown people out of jail and preying on the innocent, law abiding citizens. protecting criminals while prosecuting victims- likely the people being convicted on the gun charges are law abiding citizens defending themselves- or not having their guns locked up, or or or- gangs and criminals are let go- law abiding citizens are charged-
I would expect no less from the failing state of NC.
I’m not opposed to the death penalty, the problem is that there are far too many Mike Nifong’s out there that don’t ever get punished. The punishment for prosecutorial misconduct should be equal to the sentence being sought X 2. There have been far too many people exonerated by DNA and other exculpatory evidence that were sitting on death row for my comfort.

By the way - former Washington state Attorney General Rob McKenna - a centrist Republican - used to publish a “Ten Most Wanted” state criminal list.
A typical list would have 5-8 Hispanic illegal aliens on it.
McKenna ran for governor in 2012 and got beat by our current Democrat governor, Jay Inslee.
I have not seen a “Ten Most Wanted” list since McKenna left the AG’s office in 2012.

Exonerated?
Almost no one is exonerated.
Almost every case involves the discovery of “Mystery DNA” at the crime scene, DNA that can’t be traced.
The prosecution just decides not to have a second trial, usually because the murder took place decades ago, or because a key witness has died or has decided to recant parts of the testimony given at the first trial.
The blunt reality is not like a CSI TV program.
In at least half of current murder trials, the convicted murderer left no recoverable DNA at the crime scene.

In any event, the facts unfolded exactly as I said they would.
17 years after the murder, they found DNA from a third man, but no DNA from the original two convicted men.
DNA did not exonerate them. It simply introduced reasonable doubt which allowed new appeals or a new trial.
They were found not guilty. They were not found innocent.
Bottom Line - Empirically, the presence of DNA alone does not prove guilt, and the absence of DNA alone does not prove innocence.
Riiiiggggghhhhhttttt!!! Only 1 person could have done it, but 2 different people could be convicted of the same murder and they both did it, even though they never met. You’re a special kind of something. You are aware that this site is called “Free Republic” and not “Authoritarian Hell” right?

Until you send me a link to the prosecution case against the first two convicted men, there is no way we can have a serious discussion about this crime.
