Bernie hasn’t even been elected yet and it’s already “... to each according to his needs”
Im not a fan of those flash mobs that swoop in and steal everything in sight. But when it comes to that Matt Colvin guy, Im willing to make an exception.
Pretty soon they will be ashamed as I think this whole thing will be done with probably by May.
Speak for yourself
Amazon pays pennies on the dollar for most of its merchandise, but that’s OK because shut up.
Let any of these transactions go forward
if any product that is not rare , availability becomes hoarded, then just produce more or raise the price. Or both
Or , if you must as a store , limit to one or two of any particular item per customer
One of my favorite quotations that I use all the time with my children is
There is no scarcity complex!
If Matt Colvin had left a $1k a month job to sell hand sanitizer in FL after a hurricane and marked it up enough to make $2k or $3k that month, I would consider that entirely reasonable. He’s taking a risk and making an appropriate profit. This is entirely different - creating the shortage rather than making an extra profit when you have the initiative to address a shortage. I hope he’ll have clean hands and an empty (but equally clean) wallet for the rest of his life.
I hope they lose every penny they invested in their horde.
***If this coronavirus outbreak is a test, any kind of a test on any level, we have all failed miserably.***
For those of us who lived back in the 1940s and 1950s we simply know how to substitute for items not on the shelves.
Went to Walmart last week and got 50 lb of dog food. At the checkout line I realized I was the only one without toilet paper in the cart. No problem.
Wow. It used to be called smart business. The country has certainly gone left in recent years. I think they were smart and still have an opportunity to sell the stuff in the future for a modest hike.
the return lines at Costco, etc next month will be epic...
Let’s begin today’s “Two Minutes Hate”.
human scum trying to make an immoral profit off of the fear, illness, and health of their fellow citizens ... nothing lower than those evil con men and women except for those who defraud the elderly ...
There are businesses who buy out inventory of businesses that go bankrupt. They pay a fraction of the original price, and sell the stuff at a profit.
This guy gets no sympathy from me. Let him find someone who will buy the stuff and accept whatever he is offered.
“we have all failed miserably.”
What do you mean, “ALL”?
And yet there are the libertarian zealots even on this forum who are saying there’s nothing wrong with this behavior because market forces will take care of the pricing spikes. This isn’t a economics issue - it’s about being a decent human being in a time of crisis.
If the best you can think to do at such a time is to staunchly defend the merits of supply and demand curves, you need help.
Hoarding was a serious crime during WWII.
Well they are not so Fuhgetaboutit
PS; Craigslist will allow you to sell your dead parent
If people wouldn’t have panicked, this guy wouldn’t have been able to capitalize. Calm down already.
What the hoarders should realize, in our society, if things get bad enough for them to seriously profit off their hoard, then they don’t have anywhere near to fire power to keep themselves alive, let alone in possession of their stuff.
