Going along for the ride is easier than driving. Most people are content to let others do the driving, choose the destination, and decide how fast to go.
I agree with your sentiment but reality and physics prove your supposition -- as attractive and as reasonable as it sounds and as it has been "sold" over the past ten months -- completely false. So "here we go again":
1. You protect no one -- not even yourself -- when you improperly (as 99.99 percent of untrained people do) select, apply/seal, wear and maintain a mask. That is, setting aside physical reality for the moment, a mask that isn't properly fitted and worn with an intact seal maintained at all times around its perimeter is worthless. If the seal is broken by lifting or adjusting the mask at any time the seal must be re-established. Furthermore, a person wearing a mask cannot have any facial hair lest a seal not be established, much less maintained.
2. Although it is true that a mask will capture spittle or droplets expelled during a cough (most of which escape around the perimeter which is not sealed and at a higher velocity than if you weren't wearing a mask), like any non-HEPA dry filter when the droplets dry out on the mask surface just what do you think happens to the dry particles? They unload, either deep into your lungs when you inhale or through the mask itself which cannot contain a virus particle every time you exhale.
The "experts" -- much less the breathtakingly ignorant politicians and unelected bureaucrats -- who preach that masks work to stop transmission of a virus truly know that this is not true; therefore, what they are recommending or, in far too many instances, commanding you to do is a lie ... they are lying to you ... lying right to your masked face!
Still don't believe what I'm presenting from the perspective of 54 years (and counting) direct experience with personal protective equipment as an environmental health and safety professional? Then believe reality, my friend. Still think people like me are "idiots" because we don't do what we're told to do? Then take a look at what ten l-o-n-g months of commanded masking has accomplished ... zero; nada; nothing! -- although it has taken a year out of our childrens' lives).
As one doctor noted during a panel discussion last week: Although you may feel really good about yourself dutifully wearing your mask to "protect others", masking is not medicine, it's socialism.
Finally, to those who think mandated masking is not a big deal I submit it's a monstrous "deal". Trying to rebuild a society and attempting an economic recovery when 90 percent of the population looks like they belong in a sick ward, walking around depressed, angry and fearful of one another is as insane as are repeated and expanded masking, "distancing" and lockdowns have without doubt proven to be.
You have been lied to -- consistently, persistently and deliberately -- for almost a year. That's what should make you angry ... not rational people who refuse to play this game any longer.
To be crystal clear, my friend: I am not attempting to downplay the seriousness of this very contagious -- though far less deadly than originally predicted by the "experts" -- virus unleashed on the world by the Communist Chinese. I am not! What I am doing is attempting to shift the focus from the failed "protective measures" imposed by the governors and bureaucrats back to how we have normally dealt with a respiratory virus which didn't require destroying our society and our economy with lies.
Screw your “I protect you, you protect me” collectivist BS..... How’s this for rugged individualism..... I don’t give a crap if you get sick or your grandma gets sick and dies..... I look out for my health by dressing properly, eating properly, getting enough sleep, washing my hands, exercising, etc..... The same people who are deathly afraid of a virus that, the average age of death from which is higher than the average age at death generally-speaking, are not afraid of the deaths that will results to cuts to Medicare and Medicaid that will occur due to the slowdown of the economy.
And lets not talk about the many who lost private health care insurance because they lost their jobs and now have to go on Medicaid.
And masks factor into this a great deal. Who the hell wants to do certain things that involve wearing a mask all day long? I haven’t bothered to go on my annual vacation/combo visiting people this year because I see no point in dropping a thousand bucks on lodging, eating out, and whatnot only to have to put up with social distancing and mask-wearing in the middle of the summer. Going to the boardwalk, if it was even open, and supporting those businesses was completely out of the question for me.
If I didn’t know any better, I would think a virus was exaggerated to the point of absurdity to kill a a lot of people by killing the spirit and economy of this country. /s

I believe that ANY mandate is a bad thing.
I don’t think people should be asked, forced, or coerced by anyone to do anything.
I am saying that masks are not “socialist”. That’s ridiculous. The entire world is socialist and masks didn’t make that happen. Laziness did.
The road that were drive down is at least as wide as 2 cars. We drive on the right side, even when the incoming lane is completely clear. Think about that.
It’s part of living with others in a society. If I get pulled over for being in the oncoming lane, do I scream about how brainwashed and communist the world is?
No.
Do I understand that covid is mostly a hoax ? Yes. Do I like wearing a mask? No.
I don’t like wearing a suit either. The two ideas are similar though. I wear a suit to convey a message. I wear a mask to convey a message. If you’re comfortable in the message that YOU convey, then so be it.
What is intolerable is that my fellow freepers want to insult me and denigrate me for making my decision, and explaining my position on the topic.
I don’t deserve to be treated like that, and I won’t tolerate it.

Please do not take personally anything I wrote in my missive. From your posts I think we likely agree much more on things than we disagree ... yet it is those disagreements at the fuzzy edge of reality vs fiction that make for productive debate.

The government class has become universally weak and ineffective at the actual job of governing because now it is all about amassing personal wealth and, primarily at the state and local levels, opening professional options for advancement by selling out to big money interests more effectively than the next politician in line. A government of sell outs and embezzlers.
The interests that spread money around most thickly control agendas with their purchased newly rich automatons. China, tech giants, defense industrialists, environmentalists, International trade and most importantly, international banks.
The idea of a Republic, a government of, by and for the people, is completely lost because you need to be bought and owned by the super big money to get in the club. A self-made man can never be in this club. Mitch McConnell is the the ideal poster-figure for this...but he’s just one of many. This system won’t last terribly long because it is built to collapse. China learning the game so well that it has become one of the biggest players tells you all you need to know about the longevity of this system - which I refer to as government of, by and for the government.

Been wearing a mask for months, and haven’t experienced any of that. My sister is a doctor, and she agrees. I’m typing this on an airplane, in a high-altitude environment wearing a mask, and nothing.

Here’s my funny little story from recent
I’ve been driven crazy here in Marin County seeing everybody young old men and women everybody who is wearing masks out in the middle nowhere
So the other day I’m riding my little mountain bike on a ridge in the East Bay above Berkeley and I see this woman approaching from the other direction on a bicycle
At about 100 yards away she starts pointing at her face and I know what she saying. Of course I’m not wearing a stupid ass face diaper I never do
So as she approaches I see she’s riding a road bike she’s a road bike weenie and she’s not only got a mascon but a face shield riding by herself in the middle of nowhere
I act like I’m sort of paying attention and smiling and everything until she gets about 5 feet away
And then right in her face as loud as I can I yell “ FUCK MASKS 🎭!!!”
It scared the living crap out of her and she very nearly fell off her bike as I turned around to watch her
She was so terrified of me that she tried to mumble “ f you” but I just laughed heartily at her so loud !!!! that she just scampered away.
Us regular normal people are very very tired of this Covid nonsense and are getting to the point where we will not tolerate your KAREN - Ness anymore!!!

I applaud her but it freaks me out that the Mask Mob ganged up on her.

All last night, I stomped around stores with no mask on and only one person said anything.
I pulled up my stretch lace thing over my nose for 15 seconds and then it was off again and she didn’t bother asking a second time.
The lady in the video is young, pretty and well dressed.
Maybe it’s good that I’m older, homely and generally look like an angry, creepy hood.
