DETROIT — Ford Motor is significantly cutting its North American vehicle production in July due to an ongoing shortage of semiconductor chips impacting the global automotive industry.
The automaker said Wednesday it will idle or reduce production at eight plants, including six in the U.S., for varying periods of time next month and into early August due to the problem. Affected products range from the Ford F-150 and Ford Bronco Sport to the Ford Mustang and Ford Explorer.
I have no proof that this chip shortage is anything other than that however my gut feeling is something ain't right.
Can any Freepers provide some "inside baseball" on this matter.
The chips are from China...Time to have our own chip companies right here in the USA. We’re making ourselves victims of our own stupidity.
Why would a company put so much of a critical production component in one source? Boggles the mind.
I think the so-called chip shortage is the ChiComs waging an act of economic warfare on the US.
And Deep State is aiding and abetting it.
Ford was single sourced at a chip maker in Japan. Bone-head move by Ford. It has cost them dearly.

Renesas Electronics Corp. said Tuesday that replacements for fire-damaged equipment arrived on May 27, and should be running in mid-June. That would allow the company to return to full production

There are hardly any new cars at dealerships. We should have bought one last year. Nowadays people are paying sticker price if they can find what they want. No deals..
Stop making the vehicles so complicated.
How about quit putting so much unneeded and unwanted electronics in vehicles.
So this chip shortage is due to China flexing its muscle? Haven’t followed it so I’m in the dark.

If you look on lots right now, they’ve got mostly expensive, loaded models. Good luck finding a base trim anything.
I am in the position where I need to replace my 2010 Expedition. I am a Ford person. I am looking for an F-150 to tow a travel trailer.
Guess I will have to wait until next year.
I used a "gun" to time my car and adjust the points. I seldom brought the car in for service because of a dash light. All in all, I spent tens of thousands less in maintenance and had a great ride the entire time.

In aviation maintenance we call that a “single point failure” and when one was identified the effort to correct it went all the way to the top to ensure it didn’t impead production efforts.
Something tells me this is by design....only question is who?

All of these chips, gadgets, and gizmos increase the mileage of the vehicle by some small amount. That makes the Greenies happy. And that’s all that matters.
(Of course the Greenies would prefer that you didn’t have a car at all. I suppose they’ll eventually achieve that, one way or the other.)
If a chip shortage is going to have this kind of impact on Ford, I hate to think about what’s going to happen to Frito-Lay.
