The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Monday referred two more former Trump administration officials for criminal charges for their refusal to testify.

The committee voted 9-0 in favor of referring criminal charges for former Trump White House aides Dan Scavino Jr. and Peter Navarro. That recommendation will now be sent to the full House of Representatives for a vote. If that vote passes, the referral would be passed on to the Justice Department.

“These men, Mr. Scavino and Mr. Navarro are in contempt of Congress,” the committee’s chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said ahead of the vote on Monday. “They potentially played a part in an attack on American democracy.”

The US House of Representatives is a member of the Legislative Branch of government, not the Judicial.

The only constitutional investigative power it has is for legislative purposes.

They have no constitutional criminal investigative power.

They should all be charged with deprivation of rights under color of law.

But it does set a precedent for future House investigations. Panels no longer have to be bi-partisan and they have subpoena power over the executive and legislative branches of government. That leaves a target rich environment after all that has happened over the last few years. Not that the current group of repubs would actually do anything with it though.

I catch a lot crap around here because I will post articles from Tass regarding Russia, Russia, Russia 2.0. I am lectured about my source by people posting, CNN, NYTs, Fox, Atlantic, Psaki laughable disinfo. As far as being an American, looking for honesty in US political reporting, Tass is a much better source than the American media/government conglomerate.

MOSCOW, January 7. / TASS /. Moscow regards the events in Washington DC on January 6 as a domestic affair of the United States and wishes the American people to live though this dramatic period of their history with dignity, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told TASS on Thursday.
“This is an internal affair of the United States,” she said. “At the same time, we draw attention to the fact that the electoral system in the United States is archaic, it does not meet modern democratic standards, creating opportunities for numerous violations, and the American media have become an instrument of political struggle. was the reason for the split in society that is now observed in the United States. “ “We wish the American people to experience this dramatic moment in their own history with dignity,” Zakharova added.
Democrat Joseph Biden won the US Presidential election, according to the final official figures. The Senate and House of Representatives of the US Congress began on January 6 a joint meeting to approve the election results, but it was interrupted for several hours after supporters of the incumbent broke into the Capitol building. Lawmakers managed to get together again after law enforcement officers cleared the Capitol of protesters. Biden was eventually confirmed as the winner of the election. According to police, during the protests. four people were killed, at over 50 law enforcement officers were injured, and over 70 people detained.

It's been years, but I know Peter Navarro, and he is a good man. The last thing he is is a criminal and/or an insurrectionist. He was actually a ‘preserve the environment’ candidate for Mayor in San Diego at one point (his campaign motto was PLAN - Prevent Los Angelization Now). That he could be referred for criminal charges is a scary reminder of how vindictive people wielding political power can be.

I wonder where TASS got the ‘four people killed’ part?

I, and I feel many Americans, have nothing but contempt for the liars, thieves and perverts who think they are our betters. We know, and I’m sure they know it too, that there is no job outside of politics that they could hold.

That begs the question, why did the American conglomerate cover up the true number? I’ll automatically go with Tass on any reporting discrepancies regarding the “insurrection” or anything Russia related.

When I was a kid in the 70s and 80s we didn’t have internet of course, so foreign news and views were hard to come by. There was a magazine called ‘Atlas, World Press Review’ that I subscribed to, just because I was fascinated to see what foreign press were saying about issues... I feel the same now, I read all sources. So I appreciate your reference to TASS.

Peter Navarro was the best thing to come out of the Trump administration. Navarro had the CCP by the economic throat before the bio attack. Navarro is hated even more than Trump among the Chinese apologists. He must be destroyed completely! Who else is more honest about China?

“We are in a war with communist China,” said Peter Navarro, former assistant to the president for manufacturing and trade policy and former director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy.

“They attacked us with a bio weapon,” Navarro added. “They’re threatening Taiwan. They took Hong Kong. They continue to steal our intellectual property. They are an existential threat to this country, and we need to hold them accountable for this violence.”

It is my understanding that the Jan 6 committee was not formed properly. If true, the committee has no authority ... at all.

You've got a point there. The Tass people were doing just fine here until they said there were four people killed on January 6th; actually only two and they were both unarmed protestors.

But overall yes, take Tass or Pravda with a king-size grain of salt and one is closer to the truth than with the vast majority of the American MSM.

Bring Maria Zakharova over here and put her in charge of Fox News. That would be fun.

Yup. And there are limits on there investigative powers for legislative purposes, too.
