Each time the word ROCK is used in the Bible in reference to any providing of the people, it is used as God being the one provided. Here is the first verse in the Bible in the KJV showing just that.
(Exo 17:6 KJV) Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Who pointed out where the ROCK was? God did. What came out of the ROCK? Water, water to drink. Who is referred to as LIVING WATER, water that must be drunk to live eternally? Jesus.
(John 7:38 KJV) He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. Each time the word ROCK is used, where God provides the ROCK, it is either a literal ROCK, like just above, where WATER came out of, water to allow the Isralites to live, it came from GOD, not a man.
Sorry you just made an appeal to authority, do you honestly expect to quote a bunch of books as proving your point yet provide not a specific statement or reference demonstrating such.
It is poor form to claim a book proves something wrong expecting the other person to read all your books forts to refute a point you are unwilling to make a definitive statement. Please give me the scripture or scriptures that show Peter’s authority is conferred down through the ages to each pope and why a pope is considers, under special circumstances, to be infallible.
Interesting. False gods do result in confusion.
Peter = 4074 petroj Petros pet’-ros apparently a primary word; TDNT - 6:100,835; n pr m AV - Peter 161, stone 1; 162 Peter = “a rock or a stone” 1) one of the twelve disciples of Jesus
rock = 4073 petra petra pet’-ra from the same as 4074; TDNT - 6:95,834; n f AV - rock 16; 16 1) a rock, cliff or ledge 1a) a projecting rock, crag, rocky ground 1b) a rock, a large stone 1c) metaph. a man like a rock, by reason of his firmness and strength of soul
Due to what Jesus was talking about, the ROCK had to be the truth Peter had revealed to him from God the Father, that JESUS IS THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD.
Matthew 26:34
Jesus said unto him(Peter), Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
Mark 14:72
And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
Peter was an extraordinary MAN. That’s it. He was a sinner saved by Christ. His life was marked by many ups and downs. If one can be disappointed in Heaven, Peter would be that ANY glory, praise, or accolades would be given to him. Peter knows ALL honor and praise should go to the King of Glory and Lord of all.
Thank you “I saw the light” :)
show me where Peter is placed above anyone else in authority.
Paul himself says Peter is the apostle to the Jews, not the gentiles.
Gal 2:7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as [the gospel] of the circumcision [was] unto Peter;
Gal 2:8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
I dont hate roman catholics, almost all my freeper friends from the old protest days were catholics
Peter...Petra...rock was an extraordinary man in whom Jesus entrusted and empowered to build His Church. To deny that is yo deny Jesus truth. It was from him and the other Apostles that Jesus’ church was built, grown, and maintains. Many generations to this day...empowered by Jesus Christ and passed down authority. Pentecost was the true beginning of that empwerment...to study the history of the Catholic Church is to study Christianity. To go back in Christian history one quickly loses protestentism
...aaaand five verses later, Jesus called peter satan.
“But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men”
Three things stand out in that statement by the Lord:
1- Jesus called Peter “an offense” to Jesus.
2- Peter does not savor the things of God.
3- Peter savors the things of men.
Peter is not the rock.
The “rock” is the truth which Peter declared.
“Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God”
This rock of truth didn’t originate from Peter either, it was revealed to him by God.
“...flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven”
Who was Jesus talking to in Mark 7:7-13?
Compare your (manmade) doctrine of Sola Scriptura (didn’t come about till Luther in the Middle Ages, and was not the practice in any of Christendom until then) to Acts 2:42 and to 2 Timothy 2:2.
If you're interested in the scholarship that supports Peter as the rock, read here:

thank you, but no thank you
Amen :)
umm
the commandments of men?
A Roman Catholic is questioning something about the commandments of men?
oh, the incoming. . .
oh, no, the history of the church may contain some things about the RCC, but the history of the RCC has little about the history of the Church.
Peter?
No, if anybody was the rock of the group it had to be Mike, the sane and stable one.
Unless you mean it was Mickey, the drummer, who brought the rock.
The problem is that you assume that the speech of Jesus to the Pharisees, necessarily applies to any practice or doctrine you don’t like; or maybe rather, your denomination or pastor told you not to like.
Did you even bother to read the Scripture references, to see what the New Testament believers did?
This reads just like Leviticus, buy without the Divine Inspiration. I’ll assume the emphasis on ROCK was all yours. Interesting that people cherry pick Scripture to support their prejudices.
The Church has 99 problems but you’re not one.
Exactly!
People here can come up what ever theological reference they wish in order to make themselves feel better, but here is a historical fact based upon scripture:
Peter was only known as Simon, until The Lord called him Rock (Peter).
Anybody who suggests that the Peter is not the Rock can argue with The Lord.
