I doubt the veracity of these quotes.

Countless historians dispute the argument in this article. Without the bomb the U.S. would have been fighting Japanese guerillas for years.

I doubt the veracity of these quotes.

I agree. I don’t think Eisenhower or LeMay were in the decision loop. As for Leahy and the rest, why did they not make these objections to Truman himself?

I’ve seen some of these. However, I’d like to hear from the Marines who were scheduled to hit the beaches.

I looked up the Eisenhower quote. It’s genuine:

Whether real or not, I notice a missing quote from the Supreme Allied Commander of the Pacific (MacArthur). Eisenhower was Europe and likely would not have given much thought to the Pacific.

MacArthur would had known what he was up against if he had to invade the Japanese Islands.

As it is, MacArthur wanted to use atomic bombs on the PLA in the Korean conflict. That would have saved many American lives at Chosin.

How people felt at the time about a weapon that was inconceivable to the minds of people living in the 40’s was different than how those same people felt some years later.

President Eisenhower was born in the late 1800’s. It’s very possible these quotes - so close to the time the weapon was used - are correct. And meaningless...

Cherry picked evidence to support a position. I doubt this is true.

I doubt them also. Especially after Okinawa and Iwo Jima. Japan’s military was actively training women and children to fight to the last one if we invaded them.
