VIDEO: Lady Luck BLE$$E$ My Wife AGAIN!!!

VIDEO

The last time we went to the casino a couple of weeks ago, Lady Luck blessed my wife with net winnings of almost $400. This time it wasn't that much but at $230 net (after deducting our original $20 and the final $20 when we stopped cold turkey) it wasn't nothing to sneeze at. As I mentioned in this video that amount would pay (using GroupOn) for three the Brazilian Steakhouse dinners for both of us. The big secret of WINNING is to RESPECT Lady Luck by QUITTING when ahead. By doing this Lady Luck continually blesses my wife and, hopefully, Lady Luck will bless you as well. Just be sure not to anger her with hubris by pushing for the Big Win which she will punish by leaving you with NOTHING or a big net loss.

I’m happy for your wife’s good luck. Both of you are enjoying the experience. I haven’t done much gambling, some at Reno once or twice. I’m too cheap to really let myself go and take risks. It can be fun, if, as you say, you know when to fold ‘em. Question: Do people have to declare winnings above a certain dollar amount for taxable income, or almost never?

When I think of casinos I think Nicky in "Casino".I've entered casinos about a half dozen times in my life and gambled about $1 in the slots...and lost it all.

My most memorable visit to a casino was the Venetian in Macau...Macau being famous for its casinos. It was huge and absolutely packed with people...Chinese people. And they *all* smoked. As a souvenir I bought a chip which I still have.

I suppose that's better than getting infected with the spirit of D.B. Cooper at the airport.

The wife and I did an Atlantic City casino for New Year’s Eve one year. You would’ve thought my wife’s arm was being broken every time she pulled the lever on a slot machine. It was true pain for her. She hated every second of it.

You are supposed to declare all gambling winnings, regardless of the amount.
(The key word there is “supposed”.)

Not that you have much control over it, but it’s better to win many small amounts than one large amount. From Investopedia:

If you win a substantial amount of money in any legally operated game of chance, the payer of your winnings will deduct 24% of the total for taxes and will give you a copy of IRS Form W-2G to record the transaction.

What is “a substantial amount of money” in gambling? It depends on the game. It’s $1,200 or more in winnings at slot machines or bingo games, but $1,500 for keno. It’s $5,000 for sweepstakes, wagering pools, and lotteries.

Please stop posting these gambling videos.

First off, it’s bragging.

We don’t care.

Some of us struggle with gambling. It destroys lives.

I’m so sorry for you and others who struggle with gambling. I think all of us struggle with something in our lives that we just can’t seem to overcome. Prayer helps of course.

It’s best not to click on the threads if you don’t enjoy the content or if it bothers you.

Some of us enjoy watching the video of PJ’s wife winning relatively small amounts at the casino. As long as you pay attention to his advice not “invest” more than the original $20 (and maybe $20 more for the heck of it), you can walk away with the price of a steak dinner after an evening of enjoyment.

I for one like the videos.

That’s a fair point. Gambling, like alcohol and so many other things, can be absolutely ruinous. The key (as Benjamin Franklin said) is moderation.

The author does hint about that. He says to quit while you’re ahead. It would be nice if he were a bit more direct about that. Set a loss limit and a win limit (and make it damn small) and stick to it.

It’s just like with alcohol. Set a small limit, and stick to it. If you cannot stick to your limit (gambling or alcohol), avoid the situation completely.

I got a $10 credit at the casino with my hotel in Aruba once. Played the slot for the very 1st time just before going to the airport. Was down to $2 when ding ding dong dong bing ding” sounds erupted. I said “done” got a slip of paper and the lady counted out bills adding up $153! I left for my flight. Gotta quit while ahead for sure

I have finally convinced my wife about walking away cold turkey after losing $20. Why? Because she is now also convinced that Lady Luck will bless those who do so. Last night was the first time I didn't have to argue with her to NOT put more money into the slots after the $20 we put into the slots after the final cashout was lost. One time, years ago I actually had to pick my wife up out and carry her out of the casino while she was loudly protesting to play some more. All the while everybody who saw that scene erupted into loud laughter. Once outside my wife was grateful that I removed her while she was still ahead. And the fringe benefit was that we provided unintended comedic entertainment to the casino patrons.

Lady Luck is a demon. What seems like blessings are actually baited hooks. That became clear to me when I worked in casino surveillance a few years back. There are multiple demons in casinos that literally ruin lives.

No. As you can see in the video we start out with just $20 in the slots. If we lose that we LEAVE the casino. However, if we win we CASHOUT the voucher and keep everything except for $20 which we put back in the slots. Wash, rinse, repeat until we finally lose that last $20 at which point we LEAVE the Casino with WINNINGS in our pocket. In the case of last night we had two big wins totaling $270 in vouchers. Deducting our original $20 invested plus our final $20 lost that left a net WINNINGS of $230.

Wow, I just told him yesterday that I really enjoyed them.   It's been about 47 years since I was in a casino and I don't have a problem with it.   I get a vicarious enjoyment from it.
