Poetry and Potpourri ... November 21-22-23, 2003

.................................................................

The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Jen, I've been following your progress reports on Sasso, and look forward to hearing how the surgery went today with the skin graft.

He's sure a tough little guy, and so glad to hear he's beginning to 'play' a little again. It's good also to see you upbeat and optimistic about his recovery. Prayers continue!

Good afternoon, Billie ...... hope your day is going well. I looked at the beautiful horses but haven't made it over to the Finest yet to post.

I haven't decided whether to brave the cold tonight to attend the final regular season Fresno State football game or not. I went out to cover plants and I almost lost my toes. It really isn't that cold yet but my toes feel like ice cubes.

Thanks, Amy - hope you do get a chance to stop in before the day is over. Have missed the California gang today.

It's been a beautiful, sunny, warm day here, but think that's all going to change this weekend. :(

Good news! Sasso's skin graft surgery went very well today. He's up and moving around but he is high on some good pain meds! hahahaha It's funny watching him start to eat then the front paws slide all the way forward and he's flat on his belly sleeping. And he looks pitiful! I don't think there's anything uglier than a wet cat except a shaved one! Take a look and see what I mean.

The incision in his side is where the donor skin came from. I didn't expect such a large incision! Wow! But if you look at how large the wound was you'll see why it required so much skin. Click here for before surgery pix.

Those bandages on his bootie are where the graft is. The vet had to rig up a way to tie the gauze on since that's not an easy area to bandage. I hope and pray that the graft takes and Sasso doesn't have to go through more pain. He's being so good though. I am very proud of him and so glad the vets were able to save him.

Thanks everyone for your prayers and for your concern for my furry baby (and me).

Welcome.
Sasso looks like a tough cat, but he doesn't look happy to be missing so much fur.
Good to hear that he's doing better.

Thanks for the great report and the picture.

Sasso .... you don't look too bad .... for a bald guy that is.

Jen ..... he looks like he is handling his ordeal pretty good. Keep us posted.

I didn't see any hummingbirds yesterday so was going to take mine down this week-end but one showed up again this morning. I filled it with fresh liquid since I have no idea how long he plans to stay around. LOL

I wander through darkened corridors
Through halls of evernight
Walking as a whisper
Drifting past the darken'd light
With loneliness as my guide
I'm betrayed by the sunlight
A brief eternity to hear her voice
Bar your windows tight
I'd sell my soul to see her face
In my halls of evernight.

Global Warming?
Hmmm...

By the way, I just love this song by Toby Keith:

I love FR! (I love this bar)

We got winners; we got losers;
Chain smokers and boozers.
An' we got yuppies; we got bikers;
An' we got, thirsty hitchhikers.
And the girls next door dress up like movie stars:
Mm, mm, mmm, mmm, mmm, I love FR.
We got cowboys; we got truckers;
Broken hearted fools and suckers.
An' we got husslers; we got fighters;
Early birds and all nighters.
And the veterans talk about their battle scars:
Mm, mm, mmm, mmm, mmm, I love FR.

I love FR,
It's my kind place.
Just walk in through the front door,
Puts a big smile on my face.
It ain't too far; come as you are.
Mm, mm, mmm, mmm, mmm, I love FR.

I've seen short skirts; we've got high-techs;
Blue collar boys and rednecks.
An' we got lovers; lots of lookers;
I've even seen dancin' girls and hookers.
And we like to drink our beer from a mason jar:
Mm, mm, mmm, mmm, mmm, I love FR, yes I do!

I like my truck, (I like my truck),
An' I like my girlfriend, (I like my girlfriend),
I like to take her out to dinner;
I like a movie now and then:

But I love FR,
It's my kind place.
Just toeing around the dance floor,
Puts a big smile on my face.
No cover charge; come as you are.
Mm, mm, mmm, mmm, mmm, I love FR.
Mm, mm, mmm, mmm, mmm, I just love ol' FR.
