2 Movies Worth Watching (warning - Spoiler)

Posted on 01/29/2005 1:04:03 PM PST by what's up

2 movies I found worth watching recently. I found good undercurrents of traditional values.

"Spanglish" starring Adam Sandler (isn't he pro-Bush?) about a man in LA married to a neurotic wife (who is hilarious BTW) who hires a beautiful maid with a daughter. The maid cannot speak a word of English and is fiercely protective of her daughter. Adam Sandler is drawn to the maid because of his neurotic wife but in the end remains faithful to the wife. Lots of family values in this one. No affair takes place.

"In Good Comapny" with Dennis Quaid. About an advertising exec in Manhattan (Quaid) who is demoted from his job in favor of a hotshot half his age. Quaid is a family man who does selling the old-fashioned way. When the hotshot (a very funny and interesting to watch Topher Grace) has an affair with Quaid's daughter, he goes postal and punches his younger boss out. I liked this because there is no compromise with the fiercely protective Quaid. In the end the younger guy learns that he wants an old-fashioned values life just like Quaid.

Good, entertaining movies with some good laughs. Maybe not to take the kids to but good for a night out for the Mom & Dad. JMO.

Probably. But it doesn't have Gerard Butler, does it?

I appreciate movie tips. Reviews from real people are usually more trustworthy than reviews from movie critics. I don't like spoilers, though.

" I thought conservatives were supposed to be boring, think within the box, follow the plan sort of folks?"

Well, "central planning" is pretty much one of the centerpieces of leftist doctrine. The idea that one should be free to make decisions and lead an individual life falls within the mostly undefined realm of "conservative" thought.

In many ways, leftism and political correctness amount to the cultural "establishment" these days, with conservatives such as Freepers playing the part of the counter culture.

Since you like movie reviews from fellow Freepers, here are mine so far:

I recommend
The Aviator (a bit over the top, but good entertainment and lesson on early aviation
Sideways - Good adult fun with great performanes
Spanglish - Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It has some good lessons

Don't recommend
Meet the Fokkers - Stupid
In Good Company - Don't even know where to begin with this mess of a film. Corporations - evil, you know the kind.

I'm going to go see Ray, Phantom and Million Dollar Baby this week. Hope I'm not disappointed!

You are wrong. He did not blast her for it at all. Not the way a Father should have, that's for sure. But that's not really pissed me off about this movie. I have a question, but don't want to give away the plot to those who want to see this piece of crap..er..I mean movie. I'll Freepmail you. Let me know if you have an answer to the question. Thanks!

Re Spanglish (which we liked a lot): Did you fall asleep during the movie? The wife had sex eleven times with another man before admitting it!!!

Where were you? In the popcorn line for 20 minutes?

I liked "Big Fish" for it's pure entertainment value. Weird movie.
I saw "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" about the same time because I was dating this lady and I was doing everything I could to stay away from action movies. That's another strange one.

New 'DVD' movie....."Luther".....(1517-2005) today's politics too.

Speaking of today's politics ... my wife and I rented the dvd version of Foreign Corespondent last night. Directed by Hitchcock and released in 1940. He couldn't have professed any better the UN that would come along 7-8 years later. A bunch a wealthy elitists that know better than every one else how to direct peace by a bunch of worthless speeches and pronouncements of control. Meanwhile, the man preaching "peace and safety" is actually the one conspiring with the Nazi's to bring about the war. A movie that was obviously a propaganda movie to encourage America to enter the war in Europe - if you have doubts about this, the last scene will seal my point. The opening scene of a large newspaper owner not trusting the "do nothing" "pass along the party line" lazy wimps he has in the field is also telling of things to come. I enjoyed it greatly.
