On a whole, I consider myself a liberal....I can hear the hisses already....Im not sure exactly what it means to be a republician or democrate but I support goverment intervention for the needy (thus raising taxes) which I beileve was the classic definition between the parties.

I am also a strong beilever in god, in liberity and in freedom.

I don't understand the seperation between our parties, I honestly don't. I don't think republician's want death (I support a "just" war though), wants people to go hungry, wants intolerance (I think any true beilever in god would be againist this).

I can tell you for sure no liberals want these things. Yet somehow our parties always end up fighting. Why?

We always end up fighting each other instead of for the good causes and no one can deny there is so many horrible things happening in this world.

Your motto above says "Defending the Constitution", but thats we feel like we are doing!

Please don't blow me off as being stupid, or self serving, or hatefilled or anything else you view liberals as. Please take the time to explain and not just spread more hate.

Sincerely, Justin

Conservatives believe in hearty self-reliance. And spell-check.

We all believe in helping the needy, but here is the difference....

Liberals believe the Government should provide the needy with a Fish and a delivery schedule for their next fish.

Conservatives believe the Govermnent should provide the needy with a Fishing Pole and a map to the nearest stream

It's that simple

I consider myself liberal as well, in the Hayek sense.

I am not, however, a collectivist.

'goverment intervention for the needy (thus raising taxes) which I beileve was the classic definition between the parties. '

when you are old enough to give 40% of your salary away for 'the needy', come back and tell us how goooooood you feel about it.

There is no possibility of understanding between liberals and conservatives. The two belief systems are like two ships passing in the night. The fundamental differences in worldview between liberalism and conservatism make a "meeting of the minds" utterly impossible.

I advise you to worry a little less about politics until you can improve upon your spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

Ooh, my lucky day!! Early on two!

First step in understanding is education. Your atrocious spelling and grammar show you need more. Look outside public school.

Alright Justin, we'll tell you. Our approaches to helping the poor are diametrically opposed. You believe in giving a man a fish, we believe in teaching a man how to fish. You believe the government should be in charge of handouts, we believe that is the province of the people. You believe in taking my money to give to someone else, I believe I know best who to give to. You think government solves problems, we think it creates them.

Just look at one program. Welfare. It had all the good intentions in the world, but the results were the destruction of the minority family, and generations of people who did not have enough faith in themselves to accomplish anything. Instead of helping it was possibly the most destructive program in history.

Shall I go on?

Tell us a little bit about yourself, if you don't mind. Age, education, that sort of thing.

It will help in deciding how to answer.

I will take this one step at a time............Yes the government should support those that are truly needy, but we don't need to raise taxes. If only the truly needy are supported, then the ones that are slackers will be off the welfare rolls and we can help the truly needy.

The biggest difference between liberals and conservatives in the issues you addressed are that liberals see government as the proper vehicle for helping the needy. Conservatives on the other hand, see the role of government limited to those set forth in the constitution. We believe in helping the needy, but we would rather see private charities and churches taking on that task, and leaving the government out of it.

There are many types of people who are called needy. Some are truly in need, and there are those who are truly not. The government does a bad job of differentiating between the two. Since government takes our earnings at the point of a gun, it has no incentive to do a good job or to do it efficiently. Private charities, on the other hand, must show donors that they are doing a good job if they want the donations to come in. That forces them to be more efficient and more effective.
