Prayer Requests For A Fallen Marine

Posted on 06/20/2005 4:21:03 PM PDT by lorris

Capt. John W. Maloney, 36, who was born in California but grew up in Chicopee, and Lance Cpl. Erik R. Heldt, 26, of Hermann, Mo., were conducting combat operations near Ar Ramadi, Iraq, on Thursday when their vehicle hit an "improvised explosive device," killing them, according to a statement released by the Department of Defense. Both men were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Pendleton, Calif. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, their unit was attached to the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.

I went to high school with Capt. John Maloney. He was a great friend to me in those days. He had the brightest smile and the kindest heart, he just always brightened the day. My Dad served in the Marines during the Korean War and loved the fact that my friend was going to serve our country with them. Dad would sit with him how much he would enjoy being a Marine. We both moved away from our hometown and lost touch, but I was so sad to hear the news today. The link below shows a picture of him while in Iraq.

Any prayers for this wonderful soul who has gone home, and for his family - I'm sure would be greatly appreciated. I'm also saying prayers for the fine man with him, Lance Cpl. Erik Heldt.

Both have my prayers and that of my family, as do their families and loved ones...and our undying gratitude.

Dear Father, please rest the soul of these fallen warriors. Please comfort and send thy Peace, that passeth all understanding, and thy Comfort to their families and loved one. Let them all know of the humble thanks and gratitude of a heartbroken and grateful nation for their sacrifice, and for our freedoms. In the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, Amen.
