SEATTLE - Bob Dylan made his mark playing in one cafe. Soon, he'll be in thousands.

Starbucks Coffee Co. has reached a deal to produce and exclusively release a CD of 10 Dylan recordings from New York's Gaslight Cafe in 1962, when he was just finding himself as a songwriter. The Gaslight, in Greenwich Village, was a focal point of the folk revival in the early '60s.

"Bob Dylan: Live at the Gaslight 1962" will be available at Starbucks stores in the United States and Canada on Aug. 30. It includes the earliest known recordings of "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" and "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right," as well as folk standards "Barbara Allen" and "The Cuckoo."

I didn't find this when I searched. I double checked because I figured one of you Bob Dylan fans would have posted this. :)

What about the quality of sound? Not that it matters much with Dylan's singing.........

What? Dylan's singing or the quality of sound? (you can't have both) Probably sound like those bootleg Beatles recordings from Germany in 1962........

Fans have circulated bootlegs of Dylan's Gaslight performances over the years, but these are the first to be professionally produced and remastered, Starbucks said Tuesday.

So what are these? Bootlegs or "professionally produced and remastered'?

Bootleg usually implies low sound quality and no payments to the artist for his work.

I seriously doubt it if Starbucks is selling true bootlegs. If so look for Dylan to pick up a few extra million on this deal.

I just finished reading Dylan's "Chronicles" book in which he writes about these early days in NYC and before that in St. Paul. He comes across as a genuine kind of guy, one whom you get the feeling that, if he had not made it big, he would still be doing the same kind of thing, even if on a much less successful scale.

The book is not really written very well and it does bounce around a lot, but even with those drawbacks, I would suggest to any Dylan fan that it is a 'must read.'

The quality of the sound is what I'm talking about. His singing will sound the same, and that's what will make it good. :)

Bob Dylan, originally Robert Zimmerman (I'm a philosopher, no I'm a singer / I'm a Christian, no I'm not a Christian) has spent most of his life blowin' in the wind. I wouldn't waste my time going into the House of Burnt Coffee to buy anything with Dylan's name on it.

You mean all the modern techno-digital-mixer-synthesized-bass-boosted-companded-expanded-echo-chambered-what-ch-ma-call-its can't make Dylan sound any better than he did in 1962?.............

I think he'll make millions either way. :)

You may be surprised to learn that Dylan is more conservative then one might think (based on his image) and that he has values very similar to those of us here at FR.

You'll have to forgive me, but anyone in 2005 demonstrating the depth of their knowledge of Dylan by pointing out his birth name has the kind of knowledge that is a mile wide but only an inch deep.

I used to care but things have changed.
