Police have arrested the husband of a woman who was found three years ago beaten to death and tossed behind a trash bin just hours after the couple returned from their honeymoon.A sanitation worker found the body of Wendy Trapaga, 21, early in the morning on Monday, Oct. 14, 2002. The body was next to a Dumpster along the 7200 block of Northwest 70th Street. Her face was badly beaten, according to police.
She and her husband, Michael Escoto, 35, had come back from her honeymoon late Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002. The couple had eloped, according to family members.
According to an attorney for the Trapaga family, the couple took out a life insurance policy worth $1 million just before their Oct. 10, 2002 wedding. Escoto was the beneficiary.
Early in the investigation, police said that they considered Escoto the prime suspect, but investigators said they did not have enough evidence to arrest him.
Police arrested Escoto Monday at the Fontainebleau Apartments in Miami where he was living with a girlfriend, but they have not yet said what evidence led to the warrant.
If the policy was legally in effect, and the huisband did in fact kill her, and he was the beneficiary..then he would NOT be alble to collect. However, the proceeds would be paid to some family members..lawyers and courts get involved, and it gets messy..unless there are kids..then it all goes to them..in trust till they are of legal age...Sometimes the LI company will try to get the policy voided...but usually they don't becuase then they end up in court, and they look stupid...and the publicity is bad..because they really should NOT have issued the policy in the first place..so they usually opay up ASAP, and hope it goes away with minimum publicity..

You would think that there would be laws in place to protect people from this kind of situation. I'm Wendy's sister and believe me, my second thought was that the insurance company should be held responsible. They cost me my baby sister. My first thought was the slime that she married. It was obvious he was no good from the start. Wendy was a sweet, naive girl with a wonderful life ahead of her. Age has nothing to do with this. When you love someone and you marry them for that exact reason, age doesn't matter. He only had one thing in mind. $$$$$$$$
I knew Wendy personally. She was an amazing girl. Some information you may not have known about her is that her father passed away when she was very young in an airplane accident(the reason for the large amount of money that she DID have...and could easily attain). She had been previously married as well. She was deeply in love with her new husband as well. This girl was so sweet, so full of life...it wasn't fair that he took her life....she was only 21.
I didn't know wendy as well as I should have. I am her cousin that lives in colorado, but no one has the right to do what this dumb*** did. I hope he gets what he deserves.
A trifecta! Woohoo!
Very strange...
1...2...3...
Wait, I've heard this before. Ah yes, here it is:
That is nonsense. A 21-yo is in a differet phase in life than a 35-yo. The 21-yo is just leaving childhood. The 35 is entering early middle age.
It isn't the pure number of years -- 30 and 44 is OK. It is life experience -- as 21-yo doesn't have any.
It might work for a very small number of people, but that rare. Mostly, men who marry children are unsure of themselves and their manhood and should be avoided (the same is true for women/men relationships of the same dissimilar ages).
The idea that "love is all you need" is childish wishing and has no basis in reality.
ps: my deepest regrets for your sister and prayers for you and your family.
I hope that SOB hangs.
Wow!
A sister, a friend and a cousin all simultaneously on one thread with their very first FR post.
Now that's some mindblowing, psychic karma!/sarc
They were posting weeks apart, if you check the dates.
(Rule No. 9, if you don't get the necessary attention the first time, keep on tryin'...)
The Colleges must be nearing winter break.
Three in a row. This must be a new record.
I count three as well..
Our dear little 'insider' has returned again it seems.
I think we had seven or eight on board once (all arguing with one another too!), but that thread got pulled.
Thanks for the ping. Yes, a trio of coincidental acquantenances. That's probably a record on here?
crib-robber!! lol...
D'oh!
I checked all of their sign up dates, but didn't look to see when they posted to the thread.
Must have more coffee.
Agreed.
But it would be just as tragic if she was not pretty.
