(Vanity) Charleston S.C. Where to go and what to see?

Posted on 05/08/2006 9:54:29 AM PDT by Mr. Jazzy

Ok, just getting ready to head to Charleston South Carolina for the weekend and haven't been there in YEARS! Anything new there that I should try not to miss?

Anything I need to avoid at all costs?

Thanks!

I have no suggestions, except that you do like I do and annoy everyone afterwards with unsolicited pictures, travelogue & video.

Just walking up and down the Battery and outlining streets is still the best.

Don't forget to ride (or drive) down to Isle of Palms.

I prefer Sullivans Island to the Isle of Palms - beaches less trodden, more charm. I do remember thirty years ago when a large part of Isle of Palms was wild scrub - Goldbug country.

Officers' Row, on Sullivans Island, has gorgeous houses, lush trees. Fort Moultrie is nearby - easier to get to than Fort Sumter if you don't have much time.

Yorktown if you like aircraft carriers.

One of the plantations if you like gardens.

Eat seafood at every meal.

I love Beaufort!

Was there last year, when my son graduated from MCRD P.I.

Thanks.

The aquarium is very nice, and the tour of Fort Sumter is interesting.

Fort Sumter is DEFINTELY on the list, along with the carrier.

Thanks!

1) Ft. Sumter
2) The Yorktown
3) All the restaurants!
4) Carriage rides, if weather (and gnats!) permits.

The rest is open for discussion!

Last time I was there was in '72, and only for a single night. (Although the statute of limitations has probably expired, I won't go into details!)

A bit off the subject, but I couldn't find anyplace to post other than here. Anyway, yay for South Carolina. Just heard on Fox news that a bill will be passed protecting children from child predators. 25 years to life for 1st offense, and all the necessary rehab. stuff will be instituted. The death penalty for 2nd offense. 3 cheers for South Carolina...
