Internet Dating:

Meeting the Parents:

Now, for some fun questions to kick off tonight’s thread!

1. Have you been on a date with someone you met on the Internet?
2. Did the date go well? Did a relationship result?
3. Did you meet them on a dating site or elsewhere? Was it totally by accident or chance?
4. Do you have a funny, gross, scary, or otherwise entertaining internet dating story to share? Either one that happened to you, or someone you know.
5. Any funny or interesting “meeting the parents” stories?
6. Has meeting the parents ever caused a breakup?
7. And, finally, have you ever set up a “backup” scenario to get out of a potentially bad date?

Doesn't mean that she has no legal standing, I'm just saying that there doesn't seem to be any reason to sue in the first place. They weren't being good to her there, so she quit.

You're right. For some reason, it never works out that way.

"And then once before that, when I was 19, to keep from being homosexually assaulted."

You're the second person that I know that this has happened to.

Your's truly, being the first.

NOT-- if::

(A) you were a "favorite" of the boss, or management, or,

(B) the management already "had it in" for the other person anyway, or,

(c) not if part of the management was in on the prank or harassment with you.

In such a case, the VICTIM is the one who is blamed and usually left with no choice but to leave.

To answer your questions, I've generally not had good results with people I've met on the internet, but neither have I had good results anywhere else.

I met one woman in a Christian singles chat room on AOL. That relationship had its exciting moments, and I did meet her in person. I can't honestly say that I regret the whole thing, but it wasn't a healthy relationship. Ultimately, I broke it off because she was jerking me around too much emotionally.

Otherwise, I've tried meeting women through a nationwide personals site. I sent about 200 e-mails. Five to ten of them were false ads left by someone trying to get me to go to some other site. I realized that it was some kind of scam and never looked at the site. Eventually, I came to recognize the "women" running those ads and didn't bother responding to them. About five women e-mailed with me for periods of two weeks to maybe two months. They never had a romantic interest, and no lasting friendship ever resulted. One or two women wrote back to me criticizing the preferences that I listed on my profile. I ended up with three first dates from those 200 but no second dates. Of those three, I was interested in one, but she never had any further interest in me. One lady had the courtesy to send me an e-mail thanking me for my interest and telling me that she couldn't return my interest. The other 180 or so never gave me the courtesy of a reply of any kind.

I don't think that the internet is any better or worse way to meet people than other venues. Under other conditions, maybe something could have worked. I realize that I'm an odd fit regardless, so I try not to expect too much. Ultimately, I think anything that brings people together is a positive thing.

Your youth and inexperience will catch up with you, eventually.

Wow, Victoria -- you posted one of my favorite songs!

It does seem like we just met a few months ago -- but it's been a long while!

The title of that song -- "Fifty Years Ago" -- makes me feel so damn old sometimes. LOL.

Are there any decent, intelligent, single men out there who are in their 40's and 50's?

How strict are your definitions of "decent" and "intelligent?" I'm 42 and have never been married. Unfortunately, I rarely seem to develop feelings for anyone and particularly not for anyone who is my own age.

LOL -- thanks.

I heard Ian Tyson live in concert once a couple of years ago -- in a tiny community hall in southern Alberta near his ranch. He played a great, memorable version of that song.

Without wearing tin foil maybe she was hoping for something more than a working relationship and when you made your moral views known she knew she would not get anywhere.

So maybe the coolness is not just politically motivated she may feel miffed.
