Craig Newmark is an unlikely, and somewhat unwilling, celebrity. The self confessed "nerd" has presided over one of the most succesful websites of all time, called Craigslist.
Starting as an email to friends about events in his local area, it has become a giant, global, community noticeboard, advertising everything from puppies to lonely hearts, and virtually all of it for free.
A keen advocate for democratisation of the internet and access for all, his site is now being seen as a threat to more traditional advertising arenas, such as local newspapers. Business analysts struggle to understand the man behind the name, because he insists that he is not interested in profit; he just wants to "give people a break".
He describes on The Interview the painful shyness that blighted his early years, and how the internet has proved to be a liberating force.

Global small-ads website Craigslist recieves 4 billion page views per month
I couldn't get the "listen" link to work in this thread; however, if you go to the website via the link in the heading, you should be able to get to it.
I don't agree with everything that happens on CL, but I was fascinated by Newmark's intelligence and humility; he also shares something with the ideological supporters of liberty: he believes in people, and in the amazing things people can do when free to do so.
Enjoy.
