Outer space is emerging as a possible theater of operations for China's armed forces, an analysis published in the mass-circulation People's Daily said Wednesday.

The analysis, authored by a group of unnamed researchers at the National Defense University, listed space as an area where the People's Liberation Army must be equipped and prepared to defend the nation's interests.

"Our military should not only protect China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, but should also protect the oceans and transport routes and other economic interests as well as ... the security of space," it said.

Not a newflash -- China has been aggressively pursuing space as an option for two decades now. This, in conjunction, with their "conventional" military. But our government is preoccupied with other activities...while China pushes forward. That is China's design.

Not only that, anytime space is mentioned as a military venture, the peaceniks scream bloody murder and the dems kill/threaten to kill the funding.

If they beat us to a functional moon base, they can give us a "Surrender or die!" ultimatum. We are at the bottom of a gravity well, and a few big chunks of rock would be more effective than H-bombs. I hope our national security planners have read their Heinlein. ;)

Nothing like a quarter of your country being too stupid to realize it's actions are suicidal and another quarter gleefully suicidal.

Where humanity goes war shall follow. It is our curse.

The peaceniks are the ultimate immoral people because they either render society unable to confront the challenges it must or let other better people die fighting their battles.
