That's what NCO's are for - to recognize when the complaining is normal, and where it is a symptom of a real problem.
Our platoon Sergeant in the 82nd used to scream out, "Attitude Check!"
To which, the platoon would respond, "F%CK IT!"

I've got one on my M700 30-06 Remington BDL. I don't get that "scope cut" on my head, anymore. However, I also changed scopes.
I had a Redfield Widefield (rectangular eyepiece) that kept cutting me. I went to a Leupold 3x9x40 and haven't had any problems since.

Ever see the Bill Mauldin "Willie and Joe" cartoons that came out during WWII and Korea? Absolutely priceless. They were full of cartoons of bitchin' Joes. But the bitches were always legitimate and every one of us "Joe's" could identify with every single one. Bill died back in January 2003 at 81. God love him, may he forever rest in peace. Two of my favorites:

Love those pictures. My Dad, a WWII Vet, had a book with these cartoons in it. I remember that was one of my very favorite books from one of "his" shelves in the bookcase. Boy do those cartoons bring back a lot of memories.

I love the latest Army Reserve commercial. The kid says, while shooting pool with his father....."It's the Reserves, and I can still go to college. And they will train me until they need me."
Ask my wife, every time that commercial comes on I tell the TV, "listen to your father kid. It IS THE ARMY. And it will take you 10 years to get your 4 year degree between all the deployments overseas"
But I still have no regrets after almost 20 years and I wouldn't trade the experiences for anything.

Thanks for the Service!!!
It's nice to see the old M14s upgraded & brought back to service. May download your pic & post it over at gunsnet, we like that sort of stuff! and vets posting ;)
I haven't fired the M82 but I've sure wanted to buy one, just not part with the $8k... My buddy purchased one of the Barrett Model 96(?), the five round bolt version the Canadians use. He says it isn't any worse than a 12ga with 3" magnum loads with the huge muzzle brake they have and the semi M82 is supposed to be even easier on the shoulder.
I've been playing with the other side's toys... bought a Chinese NDM86 (Chi-Com Drag) and just tried to pick up a Romanian PSL last weekend but the shop had already sold it... Now I have to find another one! Also have a Russian SVT40, Egypian Hakim, Spanish CETMEs, PTR91 and LOTS of AK47/AK74 semis (around 30 I've lost count)...

I get it now. It's that strange sort of sarcastic/satire/irony that somehow endears us to the task at hand. Thanks.

I liken the Barrett to a .300 Win Mag. The M-21 has been around for a long time and it is still used by the USMC. The M-14 is a beautiful weapon, I have a Armscorp National Match one and love to shoot it, though it is a bear to shoulder that recoil and steel baseplate for someone like me with boney shoulders. Close the spindle valve and it is for sure a tack driver. Mine only has the medium weight NM barrel too, the M-21 has the heavy weight NM barrel.
I also have a Remington 700 BDL that I have had quite a bit of work done on to make it emulate a M-24; B&C composite stock, glassed bed, trigger dropped to 2 lbs, tactical black coating on all the metal, etc. No length of pull adjustment though, not really needed. I have a Pentax Lightseeker II 6-24x44 scope on it with a mildot reticle, it's a beauty. It has the original stock barrel on it and I would not swap it out for a heavy barrel for anything. My best 3 round group at 100 yds is 0.26" ctc. Was having a great day that day though, have not been able to duplicate it.

Sounds like you need one of these:

...and yes, they are as uncomfortable as they look. ;) Helps when using the sling too.
