I live in Colorado Springs and have attended New Life on a number of occassions...the community here is reeling from this and the homosexual population here has been dancing a jig and attacking ALL Christians as hate-filled homophobic bigots...there is such a hurtful divide going on right now and I am DISGUSTED with Ted Haggard, just disgusted! That just breaks my heart. I am so sorry that this is happening in your community. It really goes to show how one sin can effect so many (of course we know there is more then one sin here).
Yes. I think this is talked about a lot as the world comes closer to the end of times, people grow so hateful and spiteful toward the churches and it sounds you are getting a real dose of evil intentions thrown in your church community's direction (both inwardly and outwardly). I will pray for you and for your community to have great protection and faith right now through all this hatefulness and deception. Bless you. I will keep you all in my prayers.

as you could expect from that type of person, one of those anti-evolution idiots trying to dumb down our schools.I can always tell when someone thinks their side of the argument is weak.
They are forced to use their last defense, resorting to personal attacks.
Better luck next time.

It is so tough to remember. Jesus hated the sin, God hates the sin. They both love the sinner. This I swear is the hardest thing for me to do.

What's with all the snippy remarks about the Episcopal Church? Frankly, I don't appreciate it and the comments are irrelevant to the topic at hand.

Its pathetic that the gay meth-addict prostitute's version of events is more credible than the evangelical mega-church preacher.

Liberals point to the conservative wart and try to claim every conservative is the same as the wart.

Pentecostals let the preachers have more money than they can deal with. It happens to so many of them!

I'm only familiar with Swaggert, Tilton, Baker, and now Haggard. Who are the others?

Well, a guy I never heard of of before has now been removed from his position of power because he committed an immoral sexual act. And to think that would qualify him to be a bishop in some denominations.

I agree...telephone answering machines are Satan's spawn.

It is so tough to remember. Jesus hated the sin, God hates the sin. They both love the sinner. This I swear is the hardest thing for me to do.I agree. I think forgiving is the most difficult thing a Christian is asked to do. It is very easy to mumble the Lord's prayer without thinking what the words mean or letting them settle on that part of the mind where they might take on substance.
However, I do think it gets a little easier with practice, though still a tough row to hoe.

Thanks for responding to my post. It just occurred to me in reading your response (even though I know it should be obvious.) That this means He loves me too and hates not me, but my sinful behavior. What a powerful reminder in such a wicked and lonely time. I also loved that you mentioned the Lord's prayer and you are so right . . . it is easy to prayer it rotely and not think about what is said. This is why I was reminded when you mentioned it that is exactly what it says. Thanks again.

The evangelical churches don't fool around with rehab. Once a pastor betrays his/her position of authority, they're removed from their leadership position. (As far as actual church membership goes, they can be readmitted into church fellowship after they get their act together...(sorry, I don't have the details at hand right now.)

Don't receive an accusation against an elder, except at the word of two or three witnesses. Any reason you over-looked this part?
Go back and read my post. I included that. The world is not bound by this, the elders are. When someone brings an accusation, with 2 or 3 witnesses, it should be publicly dealt with. In this case, no doubt they did not go solely on the testimony of one, but rather Haggard's own testimony and likely others.

I meant they didn't notice there was a problem, address it privately and pray with him for a change before things got public and nasty.
I agree. The fact that this was public before they acted is something on them. It is possible for even the worse of us to conceal things from others... eventually it will be seen. It is sad that those closest to this man did not deal with the sin before (in the same way by the way, firing him) it went public.
