Free Republic is allegedly a CONSERVATIVE web site. Will you libertarians please go somewhere like Lucianne.com, where you can laugh and smile about how you put the Republicans out of power, and leave Free Republic to the conservatives.

Exactly. This is a Conservative forum, not a GOP one. This past government abandoned many conservative principles and got their a** handing to them for it.
Without the Libertarian leaning Republicans, the GOP will be a permanent minority party. Libertarians believe in the primacy of the US Constitution, and therefore in individual rights and responsibilities. In other words, retaining this Constitutional Republic.
Ny question is, What do Libertarians hope to gain by voting 3rd party when it is obvious they will never gain a substantial part of the electorate. It seems they must feel some partiality to one of the other major parties that they could help in winning elections. Which one would it be?

Your question asnwers itself. But even if it didn't, these mid-term elections did.
File this under "how to win friends and influence people". Ticking off people who should be your allies isn't smart politics.
I'm not a Libertarian Fan but the GOP lost this election cycle because of their own damn fault. The GOP stood at the plate with the bat on their shoulder and struck out.
What about me, a conservatarian, Am I no longer welcome???
Same here. I voted a straight R ticket, as I almost always have.
Instead of tearing a rift in the party and pointing fingers and getting into screaming matches, let's regroup and figure out what WE - conservatives, libertarians, party loyalists, and everyone else who wanted a Republican victory - did wrong, and what we're going to do about it now. Screaming at people who actually agree with you and have allied interests with you is not particularly productive.
Thank you for your effort! What many here need to think about is if they do not want this to happen again I would suggest knocking off the name calling ie: losertarians etc. Even the dims are smarter than that.
Oh GREAT Now we are eating our own! Jeeze we made fun of the Democrats for doing it in 2000 and 2004 now we are doing it. Why not blame the party that lost? I'm a Republican and I believe we lost because we became to arrogant, and self serving in the Congress and Senate. The Indpendents and moderate Repub or RHINOS as we say saw that and got turned off by it! Simple as that!
1. Why is it obvious? Not obvious to me.
2. Do you vote for someone who represents your principles? Well, gollygee, so do libertarians.
Rather than blaming those who didn't vote a straight GOP ticket, perhaps a reexamination of the failings and problems within (a wishy-washy House, ignoring the border issue, Foley, DeLay, Abramoff, and that's just for starters), and instead of whining about and blaming someone else, fixing the problems we have and regrouping for two years from now (and being gracious about it will go a long way in the minds of many) would be more in order.
Shine up that mirror. We're going to need it if we truly want to lead again.
If Republican candidates would have payed more attention to the libertarian wing of the party, we may have had a different experience last night.
I think they did yesterday.
And so did the Reagan Democrats. In droves. Can't fault the Libertarians for that one.

Libertarians didn't do this to you...
Moderates did this.. Non-aligned, middle of the road, "swing" voters..
Voters with no party ties, that vote according to their own perceived interests...
Voters that the Republicans have "turned off", disenchanted, discouraged, dismayed..
They have seen a republican congress overspend, ignore their constituency, ignore their conservative core..
They have seen a party that has been in power too long, and they threw the bums out..
Republicans have no one to blame but themselves.
I voted Republican but boo-hoo. I'd rather the Libertarian party become competetive and maybe it'd keep the big 2 a little more honest.
