Electrocuted owl cuts power to 23,000
Tue Feb 6, 4:59 PM ET
CASPER, Wyo. - An owl electrocuted itself in an electrical substation, briefly knocking out power to almost 23,000 customers in south Casper.
Margaret Oler, spokeswoman for Rocky Mountain Power, said the bird tripped the high-voltage line at 10:20 p.m. Sunday, shutting down that and three other substations. She called it the largest outage she's seen in 25 years.
"Our equipment operated exactly as it should have and did not allow the damage to go further," Oler said.
It took about an hour to restore power.

I had a cat that climbed up the power pole and sat up there all day. It was a very hot day and I was worried, so I tried to coax him down with food and water. As he started down the pole, he made contact with something and was electrocuted. As he fell, he hit everything he could on the way down. I thought he was dead. Then he started breathing. I took him to the vet, and $200 later he was good as new. He was minus a tail and ear though. He lived another 2 years before he was hit by a car. I don't recall any outages that day though.
