How can I buy a gun for protection in California? what are the steps? please help! I know nothing ... it would be great if you could also advise the model you would recommend too. thank you

No doubt. I just wouldn’t recommend a hi-cap 45 to a newbie. Also, no 380’s. They’re vicious little things (bite the hand that feeds and are hard to rack).

I’m looking at Springfield Armory’s XD 45 APC. NRA’s handgun of the year. That's what I'm picking up tomorrow. It's been the best pistol I've tried so far, and I've put off actually buying for too long.
