The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

*sigh*

One of these days I’m going to have a functioning kitchen again. Even the one at home, with a stove that has two iffy burners, seemed pretty wondrous. I made cookies and such. ;-)

Congrats on the new dishwasher!

I need to do some de-frapping, too. I think I’m going to try to put together a few Goodwill boxes this weekend, whilst listening to some of the lectures I...um...borrowed from Dad in MP3 format.

It will be so nice to finally have a dishwasher. I predict my cooking rate to go up amazingly.

I can’t wait to start redoing the kitchen. It’s just not me right now, and it will be when I’m done.

Heh, guess I shouldn’t complain about my kitchen, at least the stove works :)

But it needs a lot of work. Well, the basement was work and it came out well, the kitchen will be the same.

I also have zero counter space in my current kitchen. Enough room for a coffee pot or a blender, but no more. And the sink is hideous. Hair can vouch for me on that...

But on the plus side, unless I move to the third world for some reason, anywhere I go from here will likely be a major step up...

Is there any floor space in your kitchen? I got a little wooden kitchen cart - basically a microwave cart - that lives next to my stove and that is my most-used counterspace in my whole kitchen. Other than that I essentially have one three-foot square of counter that I really use (the rest holds appliances or cookbooks) but it works pretty well.

Heh...I’ve thought about doing that, but my floor is so uneven, I’d probably end up chasing my counter space around. ;-) It’d be a whole new cooking sport!

You could tie it down... series, it’d probably be a huge help. It just makes the kitchen feel more useful.

I still have to figure out how/what colors to paint the walls and then I’ll have the kitchen figured out. It’ll take a while to implement... not too bad though. If we put down a new sub floor it’ll take longer.

OK, this may be among the most disgusting posts I've ever made to this forum, I'd have to think about that. But what the heck is this grub thing that just came out the back end of this mouse?

This (HUGH) dead mouse was on the porch, a gift from one of the cats, and when I moved it to pick it up, this grub thing, very much alive, plopped out the back end of it. This is the second time this has happened, but this one is much bigger than last time and the first time I didn't recognize it for what it was, I thought the mouse had pooped.

I want to know what it is. It came out a hole that I don't think is actually the butt of the mouse (I posted a picture discretely below). And I'd like to know if this is some kind of worm or parasite the cats and dogs can ~get~ or what? It's a fascinating little thing. But a pretty big parasite for a mouse to be carrying around. Never seen anything like it, and I've tried googling to find something that's like it, with no luck so far.

What IS IT?

He makes a pretty cute Doctor Who. ;-) I wish they’d let him use his real accent, though.

On the other hand, when your day starts with you standing in the cold darkness in soggy socks and with a stubbed toe, surely things are bound to go uphill a bit from there, no? Hopefully?
