The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

No, I finally got through to a tech support person in Baltimordor, who said that yesterday the Mrs. was talking to someone in Canada. He promised to call back with the fix within the half hour.

His time is almost up.

it’s been far cooler this summer than it was last

Here too, actually. Thru the beginning of last August we'd had 40 days over 90 degrees, while we only had 10 over 90 this year. It's been cool enough that the yard still looks pretty good, so I've had to start watering to keep it looking nice. It would have been easier on the pocketbook if it had burned up in July like it normally does.

We're on our way to 97-100 today. Ungh. At least the humidity is only 45%. Another *lovely* day in MD. *snork*

Just make sure they spell your last name correctly. Way back when I’d been working for a couple of years, even though we had credit accounts at a couple of places, like Sears, etc. I went to apply for a credit card. It seemed to be taking a long time to hear about the approval so I called the bank. The person I talked to said the application was denied. When I asked why, she said it was because they couldn’t find any verification of the credit we said we had. I asked her to spell the last name she was using to do the search. Sure enough, she had put an ‘e’ where there is none in our name. I corrected her and told her to run it again. In a couple of days, we had the card.

*wonders how they could misspell Suzi’s last name*

Well...Jr. got a job working at a sporting goods store.

That was my first job in high school, too. I didn't care too much about bowling balls, baseball bats, or fishing gear, so I stayed around the gun department (they all had them, then). I knew more than everyone else in the department put together, so they made record sales in the gun department when I was there.

I stayed around the gun department...

Really? You have an interest in guns? ;-)

He actually applied there last year before he went to King's Dominion. But he had to be 18 to work there.

So...the good news is that I appear to have Comcast email back.

The bad news is that it appears that nothing was received/saved from the time it cut off yesterday until now.

Just got back from the funeral of an older man in the parish. I know his wife, and had met him a couple of times. They are a lovely family; ten kids and 30 grandkids. The Church was packed with dignitaries, including the Bishop and Auxiliary Bishop.

Frank had been a Justice on the Supreme Judicial Court in MA for 18 years, resigning back in the mid 90's. He'd been diagnosed with Alzheimer's about 7 years ago, and had done pretty well for a while, but when the slide came, it came fast. They had moved him to a nursing home about 3 or 4 years ago because it was just too much for Ann to do at their home, and even with the kids being mostly in town, it was still hard, and as he went down, the physical issues were difficult. At the end he didn't even know his wife, he would just tell her she was so sweet to come spend time with him.

It was a beautiful Mass, though, and the organist and choir director had sent an e-mail to choir members in case any wanted to sing. There were about twenty of us there; most of whom had been Frank and Ann's friends for years.

I didn't go to the gravesite or to the dead-spread afterward, though. I knew it was going to be extremely crowded, and I'm not that close with the family. I'll send Ann a letter in a couple of weeks, when the busyness has subsided somewhat. It's only in the mid 80's but it's very humid here today, so I knew it would be hot and crowded at the gravesite.

It just occurred to me that I’ve hardly seen any crows this year! I wonder if they were thinned out by West Nile. I know that some dead crows were found to have the disease last year.

Congrats to Jr. Has he made any decisions about school, etc. yet? Joseph hasn’t a clue about any particular college he’d like to attend. He’s thinking along the lines of 3-D Computer Animation, but he’s not sure. As a fall back, I’m making sure he’s completing all the admission requirements for U. Sou. Mississippi on the Gulf Coast. He can live at home and go to school there until he figures out what he wants to do.

I always tell them it’s like the room, but with an I instead of an E. ;o) Still takes some folks a little bit to catch on, though. Of course, when we get back to MS, I’ll have to remind folks there’s no S on the end of it either, cause there’s lots of Kitchens in the woods around there!

That would really tick me off. :-\

Well...I heard back from the car place. $260 for the parts...unknown on the labor, but considering they also need to do an alignment, I’m guessing it’ll total out somewhere in the $500 range. Could be worse. I guess that’s about what I expected.

I repeat, it’s still cheaper than a monthly car payment...

Now hopefully the old guy runs for a good while before needing anything else!

Jr’s starting out at a community college nearby. Taking general ed stuff. Although he has spent some time in the last week talking to a school in DC about their audio recording program.

That all depends on how often you have to do this.
