Why do the Veterans I know have to work on Veterans Day?

November 11th is Veterans Day, a day that America honors its military veterans who have served both home and abroad, in times of peace and in times of war; veterans who are still alive and veterans who have given their lives for our country. And how does America celebrate this day? All government agencies, the U.S. Postal Service and banking institutions give their employees the day off with pay in remembrance of our veterans. What a wonderful display of support for our veterans!

However, why is it that all the veterans I know who do not work for a governmnent agency, the U.S. Postal Service or any banking institution, have to work?…...go figure!

If you’re a business owner and happen to have a military veteran working for you, give him or her the day off with pay just like the government does. They earned it and you profited from their sacrifice. It’s time our Veterans get their just dues……...

Same reason that every one who is stupid enough to go shopping on Thanksgiving evening forces every poor joe who works retail to lose their holiday.

Each year fewer and fewer people observe Veteran's day till they get to the point of just taking it for granted as another day off. Thanks to the media the folks who had served this country are no longer heroes or Patriots, they now reserve that title for deserters, cowards, and phonies...

I am a Vet and I am proud of it and that is something that no one can take away... Darkwing, MSgt(ret) USAF.

We go to work because that is what we do. We do what needs to be done. But I am sure John Kerry and his ilk take the day off!

Golden Corral buffet is giving a free dinner to all military and vets on Monday. That is active, reserve, NG, and Retired.

They have done this for 6 years now. A great supporter of the military.

First, thank you (and allvets) for your service.

Second, I work with a Vietnam Vet who INSISTS on working on Veterans Day...and July 4th..and Presidents Day....

I have repeatedly offered to schedule him off those days, but he refuses.

Did I mention that my company pays time-and-a-half if you work on holidays?

(grin)

My first Vet’s Day off in 30 years and I’m scheduled for a colonoscopy. I’d much rather be at work, thank you. :-)

man...thats a pain in the....uhhh....nevermnd.

I'm a Vet who has also never had the day as a holiday at places I worked. Even when I worked at a company which was owned by a fellow vet. I've always been kind of philosophical about it...I served to help others...I worked to help others (and myself).
Anyway, Vets day here is now and its a Sunday. Enjoy!

I always wondered about the strong religous people who would have to quit their job if made to work on Sunday because it is said God wanted them to observe that day...

... then right after church head out to a resturant to be served by the heatherns that don’t believe as they do

The strongly religous folks I know make soup and bread on Saturday and have a couple of families join them on Sunday after church for a casual meal and games.

Much fun!
