I need to ask for you guys to put someone in your thoughts and prayers.
Someone I work with at a site, a young black woman with 2 little boys under 4 was diagnosed with skin cancer when she was pregnant with the second boy last year.
Because she's so dark, the skin changes had gone undetected for years, and they got worse when she got pregnant the second time. Even the Drs were baffled with her skin problems at first, and she got lots of wrong diagnosis' and treatment, up until about a month before the baby was born and one Dr. actually did a skin biopsy.
She's been undergoing extensive treatment for the last year and a half for melanoma, and this week, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and was told that she won't live to see her boys grow up.
BTW, she's yet to miss much work being sick. She's a sweet person and a very hard worker. And she LOVES her boys. They boys are cute, spoiled, and as well mannered as a 4 year and 18 month old can be :)
Sadly, her family is the pits, the boys father is not a great guy (we won't go there) and shes also freaking out about what will happen to her boys if and when she dies. There is an Aunt and Uncle who are great folks and willing to take the boys. We're all encouraging her to hurry up and get her legal ducks in a row.
Anyhow, she keeps going out to the parking lot to sit in her car to cry. And different co-workers go out to sit with her and bring her back inside. We have decided to do everything we can to cheer her up. But it's put a pall over everything....we're all trying to find ways to help her and the boys.
Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers.

She sounds so great. I pray for her and her children. Tell he to write a long letter to her boys to be open when they are 18. They will treasure that forever. I know it could be insensitve to discuss something like that but the boys will appreciate it.

little gifts they can open each birthday.

And we keep telling her she has the gift of knowing and being able to say goodbye (and I’m starting to cry now).
For her boys' sake, you need to have her make some videos for them, while she still can.
No problems. She sounds wonderful.

I’m so sorry to hear this! I’ve had a few skin problems, myself ... and probably should get back to the dermatologist soon!
I’ll pray for your friend, especially that she will make firm, enforceable arrangements for her sons’ care, soon.

She needs to get a second, third, or fourth opinion - I know too many survivors of ovarian cancer for this to be accepted as gospel...unless it's already too advanced.
At any rate, prayers for your co-worker - she has some very hard days ahead of her. God Bless you for being her friend.
She needs to speak to a lawyer immediately. If she can’t afford one, call around to whatever law schools are in your area and find out if any have a family law clinic (many do). If the boys’ father is alive, she’s going to have a very difficult time giving custody over to another relative. It is absolutely crucial that she take care of this right this minute.

I think ‘life’s lessons’ can be harder on children than we can imagine. May His Tender Mercy protect, comfort and guide them through this upcoming loss. I also pray that the mother will be able to turn her grief into positive actions that will result in wonderful memories for her children.

I do hope she gets another medical opinion before she gives up on her chances to beat it. I know of two women who had pretty slim odds when they discovered that they had ovarian cancer...both survived it, and there are more advances in the medical field today than were available to them.
I’m praying for her.
She and her boys have my prayers. He probably doesn’t listen to me often but I hope this time He does.
Tell your friend we are lifting her up to the Lord who made her and loves her. May she find peace and comfort in the Arms of Christ, and may she be healed. In Jesus name, I pray it...

So sorry to hear that—that is a very sad situation. How horrible to have one of those really bad cancers, but to get two at the same time.
I’ve seen commercials for the Cancer Treatment Centers of America—one lady in the commercial said she went there when another doctor was giving her no hope at all.

Maybe she could still contact the website and see if they can give her a referral.
Praying that things can yet turn around for her. May God work however many miracles it takes to spare her life so she can raise her boys. In the meantime, and it would be terribly difficult to face, she needs to take some of the advice of other posters.
They’ve got an 800 number at the site too. It can’t hurt for you or her to call. This girl needs some hope. Even if it is indeed hopeless, she still needs some kind of hope to help her through her last days. I’ll be thinking about her.
My friend is an ovarian cancer survivor.... almost 12 years. We had the same oncologist. I was discussing with him the fact that my friend had been told she wouldn’t survive. My oncologist bristled and said “not by *me*”!
If her oncologist is the one telling her she won’t survive, have her get another opinion. And a third, just in case she doesn’t like the second one. You can make it. And it won’t be the worst thing she has been through in her life. Have her freepmail me if she needs someone to talk to. I will give her my number.
Almighty Father, strengthen this lady in her time of trial, help her to rely on you, to find someone to care for her boys that they may grow also to rely on you. Heal her if it be your will, and make her whole. I ask this in Jesus’ Holy Name, Amen.
