Elvis: I was in Houston working in the home decor department at Sears , right next to the television department. One of the guys from the TV department came over and told me to come look at something. I walked over and they were showing Elvis in his ugly white glittery suit singing in concert, but the voice over was talking about his death. Women were standing in the aisles clutching on to each other, sobbing and wailing. (This went on all day long.) A few of the women that worked at the store were sent home that day because they were so emotionally distraught they couldn’t work.
Which way were you headed? DI side or FT. Morgan side?
Yea but George later help put together what could have been one of the greatest bands of all time.. RIP Nelson Wilbury and Lefty also.
Most supergroups are a collection of egos, but the Travelling Wilburys were, IMHO as well as yours, an exception. A damn shame they never toured, as the chemistry they had in the studio would have worked wonders live.
Yea when I first heard them I was amazed. Actually I saw their video first "End of the line" right after it first came out. Till they released the recent box set I couldn't find it though. In my opinion the three CD set out now is worth the money just for that. Roy had died a few weeks before the video was shot. There's an empty rocking chair in his place. George was the best musician in The Beatles as far as I'm concerned. Paul and John could turn out lyrics but George was a great guitar player and a much more humble person from what I hear.
Up until he was on his deathbead, George would spend time at the local pub in his neighborhood once a week just shooting the bull with his neighbors. One of the doctors who treated him told me that he was wonderful to deal with, and was fairly stoic despite all of the pain he was in.
There’s few groups I haven’t grown tired of hearing over the years. With The Traveling Wilbury’s I finally liked hearing Tom Petty LOL. I reckon my all time favorite though is Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. My first wife got me hooked on their music. I don’t know that much about the band itself. The only band I ever had any inside info on was Marshall Tucker. A guy I know was part of their stage crew in the early 80’s and knew all the origional members real well.
i think towards Ft Morgan.....I was working on an oil transmission pipeline spread for my dad who was a sub for panhandle eastern...the line ran from near lucedale ms to north mobile county to hook up to a barge dock above mobile....maybe 50 miles....two spreads....i was office manager on one
my girlfriend had come down to see me for a few days from Nashville...i had a weekly out west of Mobile near Semmes or Wilmer (boring)
i went back next semster to Ole Miss and finshed my last 12 hours..lol
