I was 4 and even at that age I was excited about this stuff. Ya gotta figure that the whole world was excited about it and most American kids were encouraged to be excited and proud about it.

Coincidentally, I was searching for this broadcast clip a week ago and found it on YouTube :) There is a version of it on an old DOS "game" from the late 80's called
Space Adventure: With Buzz Aldrin & Tom McDonough which overlays "Silent Night" in the background as the Apollo 8 Astronauts read the Scripture .... just beautiful, simply beautiful :)
Merry Christmas :)

I was especially lucky because James McDivitt settled in Jackson Mi. after leaving NASA and my grandfather had business dealings with him. Granddad used to take me to the occasional business lunch and McDivitt had no problem taking a few minutes to tell stories about going into space.

Very inspiring.
Our family was watching this live when I was a kid.
Still gives me chills.

I remember it well—I was 14 and a big space and science fiction nut.

I was 14 at the time, and we were at a big family get-together for the holiday... I remember all the activity in the house stopped and everything was quiet as we were all transfixed on the TV.

My oldest daughter was born at about the time that Col Borman signed off with the fnal reading from Genesis. I wanted to name her Apollonia but my wife said NO!
It's a god Sicilian name but....
