Class of 2008 2:45 PM MT NFL.com
The six-member Class of 2008 is linebacker Andre Tippett, offensive tackle Mark Zimmerman, wide receiver Art Monk, defensive end Fred Dean and cornerback Darrell Green. Senior nominee Emmitt Thomas was the sixth and final selection.
Green was in the ballroom behind us, with Redskins owner Dan Snyder and a group of family and friends. When his name was announced, you could here a loud-but-muffled cheer coming from the back room. Pretty cool.
"This is incredible," said Green as he nearly broke down in tears at the podium. "It's just so special. I just want to thank God. I know you hear guys say that in a flippant way. But this audidence here in front of me and at home, you all know that, as a person, when I say 'Thank God' I really mean it. ... This literally transcends football."
Just spoke to a close friend of Carter, who was downstairs here at the media center in Phoenix when he learned that he didn't make the cut. He reportedly was "devastated."
I’m sure some idiot will jump on here saying Tippett has to have an asterisk affixed to his plaque.
I think the fact that he played the same position at the same time as Lawerence Taylor delayed his HOF induction.
Art Monk’s induction was long overdue.
As was Darrell Green’s. Wasn’t he the fastest man in the NFL?
I couldn’t fathom why a man who at one time held the all time receptions record wasn’t in the HOF.
Carter who? Jimmy Carter?
I don't think you have to even graduate high school to write news stories anymore.
I’m not sure a lot of fans my age (certainly those who live in NE) remembered him. The old Pats jersey and helmet though is a great look...not sure why...
I always liked it although I can’t argue with the success the franchise has had since changing uniforms.
Darrell Green just became eligible for induction this year. He was the fastest man in the NFL for several years.
Heck he could run backwards faster than most could run forwards.
That picture reminds me of how much better the old Patriots uniform was compared to their current one.
I feel the same way about the Broncos and their old uniforms.
Carter deserves to be in, but Monk was way overdue.
As was Emmett Thomas’s.
Otis Taylor should have been in years ago.
