NASCAR begins campaign that targets core fan base - (They want the fans back they alienated)

NASCAR is unveiling a brand message for the season dubbed "Our NASCAR" that targets its core fans, the same ones who have complained that the sport left them behind during its growth.

(SNIP)

TV viewership also dropped among males 55 and over, another statistic that could speak to the loyalty of the longtime fan. These figures offer some support to the more anecdotal complaints longtime fans have voiced about inconsistent start times, the commercialization of the sport and the desertion of tracks in the Southeast such as North Wilkesboro and Rockingham, both in North Carolina, in favor of new markets such as Los Angeles, which is served by two races per year at California Speedway.

Put the Labor Day weekend race back in Darlington where it belongs. That’ll make a start, at least.

NASCAR’s gotten kind of boring. The new breed of drivers all seem to be either boring nice-guy clones like Jimmie Johnson, or whiny brats.

Not to mention cars that all look alike and don’t resemble the real cars they’re supposed to be. That was the whole point of “stock” cars.

Jeff Gordon can't find a nice place to stay around there.

Cookie cutter tracks suck too. We already have two races at Michigan. They could have made California a true oval or something at the very least.

What's NASCAR got to do with stock cars? They quit that in the 80's when the big three quit making cars anyone wanted.

I never was a NASCAR fan (and probably never will be), but it is closer to TV wrestling or Soap Opera than a sport.

Get rid of restricter plates and cookie cutter cars and let them have at it.

May the best mechanics, builders and drivers win.

The only way to convince me they seriously care about the fan base would be for Brian France, Mike Helton, Jim Hunter, and John Darby all to step down.

Not only boring, most races cover all the caution (time to get a beer / take a leak) laps than race laps these days with at least 3 commercial breaks with only 20 left.

Couple that with the infomercial pop-ups during live coverage of race laps, and yes, it sucks to be a NASCAR fan, not to mention most Cup tickets averaging $100 for the front stretch.

NASCAR’s gotten kind of boring.

Only if you find driving cars around a circle, over and over, at basically the same speed boring.

I could barely stand to watch Daytona last weekend. It just bored the crud out of me.

I went to a NASCAR even once. It was very very boring. After a while you actually hope for a crash to maybe liven things up. I read my book, it was vastly more interesting; I still remember which book “The Ancient Engineers” by L. Sprague De Camp.

I'm waiting for the new rules to make it more fair for Ford and Chevy to compete with Dodge and Toyota. They should come before the next race, or they will just script a win by Ford or Chevy. Same difference.

Big cars with big logos going slow enough for everyone in the stands and watching on TV to recognize them.

I find it as exciting as lying on the floor and staring at one of these for a few hours...
