After five years of futile efforts to find or confirm sightings of any Caribbean monk seals — even just one — the U.S. government on Friday announced that the species is officially extinct and the only seal to vanish due to human causes.

The problem I had with the Caribbean monk seals was that it always took more than one to make a decent meal.

Because you can’t find one, it doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

the only seal to vanish due to human causes.

What did I do to get rid of a seal I never heard of much less saw?

Had we put up a bunch of off shore platforms out there it would have provided the seals with a birth to rest on and they would have bred better. So by us not drilling we caused them to be extint. We better get some derricks out there before some other helpless sea animal dies out.

Oh wait, as I read deep into the story, even though one hasn’t been seen since 1952, global warming is to blame.

I did not eat one.

I ate two! They're so good, no one can eat just ONE!

The enviro-idiots ought to be happy! It's just Darwin-ism in action. Adapt or die. The seals did not adapt to humans hunting and eating their asses, so they DIED!

A.M.F., Caribbean Monk seal.

the species is officially extinct and the only seal to vanish due to human causes.

The Hawaiian population is declining at a rate of about four percent per year, with challenges "such as lack of food sources for young seals (natural cause), entanglement in marine debris, (quite rare) predation by sharks (natural cause), and loss of haul-out and pupping beaches due to erosion (natural cause)," the service said.

So the Hawaiian monk seal population is shrinking mostly due to natural causes but the Carribean monk seal "vanished due to human causes" having last been seen in 1952.

If they tasted good someone would have raised a bazillion of them they must have tasted awful and not been much of a pest either.

Isn’t government grand?....they take your money and get futile with it. If these f’ing jackasses had to account to someone for all the money they throw away, they would all be in prison!!
