We’ve got em 30 minutes to the north, just up against the VA border. People up there that I know practice “SSS” (Shoot, Shovel, SHUT-UP) with them. ...that is after they put up all the meat they can possibly keep! They’re potentially very nasty critters.
You have a beautiful family but your durn flag is upside down!
I can feel my arteries hardening just reading about it!
LOL! Thanks!
Sounds good to me. A little pork fat may work just as effectively as the hogs themselves.
The javelina or peccary is not very closely related to the pig (swine), although they look a lot alike.
They are members of different families, and the peccary is native to the Americas, while swine weren’t around till Europeans imported them. They are not interfertile.
The Mel Gibson movie Apocalypto started off with the tribe hunting a large peccary.
Ah, thanks. My mistake.
Wichita County/Archer County, Texas, South of Wichita Falls, Texas...close to Archer City. That is where the segment from the History Channel was filmed.
Yes and the other site was either around Quinlan or Quitman, I can’t remember which.
Right now they are really bad near Mobeete TX. I have taken em with handgun rifle and 12 ga slugs and the 460 Wthby mag is hands down simple solution.
Stay safe buddy !!!
Key to cleaning a javelina is making sure ya remove the gland on their back or it taints the meat good eating otherwise.
Stay safe.

Man! I’ll bet that .460 bowls em over! :-)
I’m game. Can my little spotter/butcher/Wife come along?
We have places to hunt in Coryell, Runnels and Kerr county but, I’m always up for some new territory especially one with antelope.
There is a little secret to field dressing those big boars to preserve the meat. If at all possible as soon as the hog is killed, hang from tree by the head or snout. That keeps all the undesirable things down at the bottom. Dress from top to bottom from the chest cavity on down. After field dressing, fill body cavity with ice and keep it packed for about 24 hours before processing meat. You will have lots of good eating.
Absolutely! But only if my wingman (12 year old boy scout son) is welcome, too!
If your friend is really serious about some varmint removal, I'm seriously up for it.
I think I would like to do it after the Texas Summer cools down a little, but that's even open to question. I'm going camping for a week in Alta Texas with a boy scout troop pretty soon, so I'll be fairly well checked out on roasting myself for the near future.
No so much remove , my bad choice or words......MAKE SURE ya don’t touch it or damage it or ya taint the meat !

I learned the hard way on that tidbit of info.
500 grain solids, from end too end in most cases breaking lots of ability too stay in motion of any kind.
Honestly a copper solid slug from a 12 gauge does it just as well and a hell of a lot cheaper. It is just the only time I get too unsheathe the ole elephant gun. Unless of course the circus is in town and one gets pissed off at the populace etc etc ......:o)
Last time I priced 460 ammo it was 100$ plus for 20 rounds when I could find it . I have a few hundred rounds of commercial and weatherby ammo, some aftermarket custom and I reload of course for it !
The old ruger no 1H tropical rifle was chambered for 458 Win mag and the guy I bought the rifle from in NM had re-chambered it in 460 wthby mag . It is actually not that bad too shoot due the weight of that rifle in 1H configuration.
Just a gauge or degree of recoil too consider.....the average 30-06 has 14 pounds of “felt recoil”........the 460 Wthby Mag has 114 pounds of felt recoil.......LOL !!
