BERLIN, Germany (CNN) -- Heidi Krieger proved herself one of the world's top athletes in the 1980s, winning medal after medal in the shot put for East Germany. Andreas Krieger says his body changed soon after he began taking what coaches said were vitamins.

Now, the former sports star looks disdainfully at the awards, dismissing them as "doping medals" and honors that turned a woman into a man.
Heidi Krieger, the 1986 European women's shot-put champion, became Andreas Krieger after a sex-change operation in 1997. He says he had been fed so many steroids by his coaches without his knowledge that physical and emotional problems began.
The young woman's physique changed drastically, as did her feelings. "I felt much more attracted to women and just felt like a man. But I knew I was not lesbian," Krieger told CNN.
Her coaches said they were giving her vitamin pills, but they were actually feeding her Oral-Turinabol anabolic steroids.
Krieger is among an estimated 10,000 East German athletes thought to have been given performance-enhancing drugs to help build their country into a sports powerhouse.

What's CNN's angle here, that transgendering isn't a matter of choice?
Seems to me the angle is that he was assaulted over time by the communists in Germany, to the point where the damage was irreversible. I suppose you could challenge CNN on their previous stances on related issues, but the article appears to have been written by a reporter in Berlin. His perspective is, perhaps, more logical.
nahh. more likely they found the closest thing to a story that can be spun to support their pro lgbt insiders.
if you think so
Experts say the next step for sportsmen and women looking for an illegal boost to physical performance could be gene therapy — so-called “gene doping.”
Sports physician Willi Heepe said gene therapy means the body will basically dope itself.
If that happens, “the human monster will be a reality,” he told CNN.
Don't bother posting your disagreement, it's already registered.
Hey that chick looks like a dude!
1st to say they took a guy and gave him female hormones and now hes a guy again.
HMM
hadn’t thought of that.
Look at the one on the left and tell me that couldnt be any guy in the 70s with a mullet.
Im betting he started out as a guy and is now trying to be one because he cant hide it anymore.

The photo on the left of the younger Krieger is after massive doses of anabolic steroids.
This is a sad, sad story to read. I am very sorry that as a young woman she was so medically abused.

There are enough details here that it seems the story could be proven/disproven based on witness accounts.

The picture on the left of the young athlete was taken after years of being given “vitamins” virtually by force by her communist masters. The “vitamins” were testosterone, steroids, and growth hormones. These “vitamins” were forced on her by early puberty after she had been selected for the East German international athletic track, again without her consent. The picture on the left is not a “before” picture, it’s a young “after” picture.
