Palin not knowing what exactly they were referring to, isn't like she is stupid , she isn't up on the terminology of the inside the beltway crowd. There is NO SUCH DOCUMENT and its not a REAL THING.
The main elements of the Bush Doctrine are normally extracted form a National Security Council document, National Security Strategy of the United States, published on September 20, 2002, and this document is often cited as the definitive statement of the BUSH Doctrine. The National Security Strategy was updated in 2006.
The Bush Doctrine is only a phrase used to describe various related foreign policy principles of United States president George W. Bush as outlined in that document. But the Bush Doctrine is a subjective term since it is actual an abstract not a hard document.
Clearly the Bush doctrine would include Bush's invasion of Iraq, but your opinion on the reason Bush did that would be YOUR interpretation of the Bush Doctrine. It may be different than mine. Its an ABSTRACT term. Not like you can just refer to a hard document titled "The Bush Doctrine" There in no such document.
It would be irresponsible for a VP to answer that question without getting the clarification on what the questioner means in his mind by "Bush Doctrine".
Palin answered the question very well.
Exactly. If he asked her if Bush advocated preemptively taking the fight to terrorists and states known to support terrorists I’m sure she would have answered correctly. The fact that she didn’t know many call it the “Bush Doctrine” is immaterial. I haven’t heard it called that in a while and I’m not sure I even remembered the term until this “scandal”.

Excellent post. Sorry I missed it.

In fact my opinion of the “The Charlie Gibson Doctrine” is that the “Bush Doctrine” is to “Kill them all and let God sort em out”
Its a very subjective view. Charlie’s views on the Bush Doctrine are quite different than mine and I’m sure your view’s of the “Gibson Doctrine” is quite different than mine.

Well, there IS a document, from 2002, but it’s 31 pages long and talks about all sorts of things. Gibson is the dunce pretending to be the teacher.
A nit, if you will. The "Bush Doctrine", in liberalspeak, is a reference to what they also call "Cowboy Diplomacy". The "Bush Doctrine" from the liberal point of view, then, is to declare war on any country that (liberals believe) has never done anything to us.
In Liberaland, this perception of the "Bush Doctrine" is a core principle of Bush Derangement Syndrome.
