I've shot thousands of rounds of Sellier & Bellot, never a problem.
Wolf, on the other hand, I will never buy again. The last straw was a Wolf .45 round which had a case split, jamming it in the gun.

Love my Marlin, good gun, good price @ Walmart. Thumbs up on Sellier & Bellot too in .45 in my CZ.
I’ve shot all Wolf in my WASR, no problems. That’s why it’s lacquered, I think.

Marlins are soo safe, I missed a coyote once because of the stupid safety button. Hammer was half-cocked and safety button was ‘on’. I jacked the damn lever till the gun was empty thinking the shells were duds...It was brand new and my previous gun was a Win.94 (no safety button) DOH!

Uh, you use whatever your gun likes. Feed it different brands while target shooting and you’ll figure it out. I do shy away from the dirty stuff though.

When I was reloading my machine paid for itself the first time I used it. I highly recommend
DILLON for a novice like I was. I sold my "Square Deal B" after my back started acting up more. Now I just buy in bulk, but if I didn't have the supplies I have now, I'd consider getting back into the hobby. In fact, you could make a great living as long as you buy in bulk ahead of advancing legislation. This could be a recession proof side line. Of course there is always a downside. Here it would probably mean a listing on the top ten list of most wanted ... dead or alive.

On the lever action, for medium sized game, a Winchester 30/30 pre 1964.
True, until Hornady came our with their LeveRevelution Flex Tip, which adds lots of range to the round.

One of my favorite Internet sites is Real Guns where a lot of the technical stuff about "handloading" is discussed in detail. Old hands will find something of interest and the beginner will find a treasue trove of imformation on the subject.
One of the projects on this site got me started in handloading. See Reloading the .257 Weatherby ... in Excruciating Detail Part 1 and Part 2
I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Winchester white box at Wallyworld is fairly cheap, and my Glock .40 has never complained about it.
I like to get the Lake City Federal ammo in 5.56 when I can get it at a decent price. I've heard that Serbian Privi Partisan ammo is pretty good and can usually be found at a decent price, but haven't tried any yet. Does anyone know from personal experience?

A local gunsmith, a man who actually makes his living repairing weapons, told me to avoid the ammo they sell at WalMart. He said a lot of his customers have had trouble with it.

Try to “buy American”, but in the end, get a good deal and buy in bulk.

Check out www.ammoman.com. For the .45, 12, and 7.62 (x52?). Stick to re loadable, non corrosive cases. The only Wolf brand ammo that should be considered is 7.62x39 and .22. The AKs were designed to run the steel cased stuff. Don’t worry too much about the lacquer coating on the cases unless you are firing full auto a lot (heat, melting, buildup). The Wolf .22 match is actually manufactured in Germany under license.
Good luck!

First the rifle. Try a Marlin. If you want something w/ pop get a guide gun in 45-70 or 450 Marlin. Deer size, go w/ the 336 in 30-30 or the new rifle in 308 Marlin, using the new soft point Hornady Ammo. Ammo? Hornady, Nosler are always good. As for handguns, Hornady, Winchester, Speer and a bunch of other name brands are good.

Take a look at the Browning BLR. It’s a lever action with a removable box magazine, so it can be chambered in all those good “pointy-nose” calibers like 308, 30-06, 243, etc.
I have one in .308 and it’s awesome.

“....avoid the ammo they sell at WalMart. He said a lot of his customers have had trouble with it.”
Curious. I just went to WalMart the other day at the recommendation of FReepers and bought Remington. Why would a box of Remington 7.62 X 39 be different from a box of Remington 7.62 X 39 from someplace else?
