Alabama coach Nick Saban responded angrily to today's news that Tommy Tuberville is out at Auburn after 10 years.
Tuberville makes four head coaches to lose to Saban this season and not retain their jobs, joining Clemson's Tommy Bowden, Tennessee's Phillip Fulmer and Mississippi State's Sylvester Croom.
Here was Saban's unprompted statement ...
"There have been several coaches that have been let go in our league that have a pretty good body of work behind them. They've been really good coaches. They've been really good for the game. They've been good for a lot of players, and they've had very, very good programs. I've talked about Phillip. I've never really ever talked about Sly - Sylvester - and Tommy (Tuberville). Those guys are really good coaches. They've done a good job for a long time. They've got a tremendous body of work.
"I really question some of the judgment relative to how it is for our game that people who have those kind of relationships and have done that kind of job and affected so many people in a positive way - and have had a reasonable amount of success relative to their circumstances - would not be given more respect and consideration than what these guys have been.

I do have to say the man is a hypocrite judging form his past actions with other programs. He has left program after program for the thinnest of reasons, obviously chasing bigger and bigger bucks while the kids he recruited were left burned and shivved.
The man has no loyalty to anything other than bigger bucks. Good luck Bama fans, I hope he's better to you than his past three gigs. Based on his history, he'll chase the first bigger opportunity that comes his way.
Too bad his past actions speak louder than his words today, because what he said was right.

Then it’s time to treat it as a pro league, and tax it, and demand salaries for players. Because if this is how we’re going to do things... fire coaches at the drop of a hat... then you can’t call this amateur athletics anymore, and what the players are doing is essentially a work-study program. Other students get paid for work-study.
We need to decide if college football is about character, sportsmanship, and amateur athletics, or if it’s a professional, profit-making enterprise.
One of my all-time favorite movies is a 1953 John Wayne movie called, ‘Trouble Along the Way’ in which Big John plays a college football coach. Outstanding movie.
He surely pissed off some of his own when he said this, but who can argue the point? Tuberville’s bad season came after ten good ones.
Wrong school. It was Tuberville and the Auburn Tigers that made up a 'People's Championship' the year they were undefeated. I think Alabama has 12.
Re: Tuberville's leaving. I really was surprised they let him go this year. I was thinking he'd have one more year to get things back on track. It's been a rough year for SEC coaches!
Anyone po'ed isn't a real fan of college football. There is a heavy dose of 'Saban Derangment Syndrome (SDS)' out there, yet even the Auburn fans I've heard from, in the short time since this announcement, appreciated Saban's words. Additionally, the Alabama fans I've heard from since are in agreement as well.
I wish the Auburn Nation the best of luck in finding the right guy for their program. It was right at 2 yrs ago Alabama found ourselves in a very similar situation, yet we'd gone thur a laundry list of 'the WRONG guys'. I look forward to playing in a healthy and well balanced SEC!

As was said on the radio yesterday, Weis’ buyout is more classified then a defense contractor’s deals with the Pentagon. I’m not a big Awburn fan - in fact, I live and breath Alabama football, but I think this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of - there are schools that would kill to have the record Tubs had at Awburn over the past 10 years.....I truly thought they’d keep him until next year and then let him go but I guess not...there’s a video on YouTube entitled Bobby Lowder’s office in Auburn....watch it - it is hysterical....
And the kicker here is that he’s leaving with $6M and doesn’t have to take any less no matter where he ends up and what his salary is....it was a good news/bad news day for him - he won the $6M lottery, but he lost his job!
Yes, we hate him down here, but his leaving was a good thing.

College coaching and NFL coaching are totally different jobs.
Actually Alabama claims all kinds of National Championships. Prior to the BCS the NC was crowned based on the coaches poll and the writers poll (UPI and AP). CHEWTIBACKY NC did not count.
I believe Auburn got a royal screwing a few years ago. So did Notre Dame back in the 90’s. They need a playoff but of course that isn’t going to happen.
The NCAA officially recognizes all 12 of the National Championships that Alabama officially claims. All of those came from legitimate sportswriters, polls, publications that were recognized nationally at the time they were awarded. Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma, USC all claim similar NC’s from the past that were not necessarily awarded by AP/UPI.
If we counted all the other ‘CHEWTIBACKY NC’s’ on top of those 12, it’d be more like 17 :)

to Radl,Re: "Auburn got a royal screwing a few years ago". I've had it explained to me how that came about and it was unfortunate... I think the State of Alabama agreed on that. Yet to ME, the 'People's NC' thing with the rings etc seemed a bit desperate, but that's just me.
You can claim that Alabama "claims all kinds of NC" all you want, yet it is not true. sorry

I’ve got a dental appt at 1120 but I’ll listen to 105.5 here in Mobile while driving over there and see if it’s on...this thing is just too weird.....I’m getting the feeling that the Awburn folks are pretty divided on this...I just don’t understand Tubs saying he’s going to stay and work for the President. I went to al.com to see what was being said and that’s what he’s been quoted as saying, that he’s staying on to work with the President but didn’t give any particulars other then to say he’ll stay out of the limelight and away from picking a coach....
I do know of one case where Minn was recognized by the polls as the NC but some minor poll gave it to Alabama which is one of the 12 they recognize. Maybe you should take a look at this:

I agree with you re: NC. We got screwed and that is just the way it is. I’ve also learned not to blame a loss on the refrees. A good team plans for bad calls and just plays through it.
Nice talking with you however I am not an Auburn fan. I just feel they were screwed a few years back. For several years I have been following Manchester Unite soccer. When the NCAA has a playoff I will be back. Good luck in your future games.
Saban is an unscrupulous, selfish jerk who is in business for himself, first, last and in-between. His behavior as coach of the Miami Dolphins was more than just not winning. He had a 9-7 record his first year, falling to 6-10 in the 2nd. He made a 5 year commitment to the Dolphins, turned the team upside down, brought in Gus Frerotte who did a decent job as starting QB in the 1st year, only to dump him for injured Daunte Culpepper, with Drew Brees available. He wanted sole authority on all decisions and was arrogant and insolent did not allow any of his coaches to talk to the press. He was often an embarrasment to the organization with his rudeness to the press.
He lied all along about his plans to talk to Alabama and committed himself publicly to the Dolphins only to disappear overnight with his moving truck, leaving the team high and dry when they were trying to plan for the next season. Never explained himself, never spoke to the team, just phoned it in after he was safely in Tuscaloosa. Real, classless, jerk.
