Time Person of the Year 2008 Runner-up Sarah Palin

"In the beginning, she winked. "I was just your average hockey mom," she told us by way of introduction, which was a charming diversion from the reality of the most astonishing political debut in modern times. Sarah Palin did indeed show she could play politics as a contact sport; her motherhood did become central to her message. But average? Not in your wildest dreams."

...
...

"By then, more Americans had decided to tune in to her speech than watched the Olympics' opening ceremonies in Beijing. She emerged onto the stage, and the arena roared its welcome as if she were some kind of conquering hero. She looked out and smiled as she stared her critics down. She sassed them. She stabbed them. She derided the "elites" whose opinions meant nothing to her."

It's worth reading the entire link. And here is Sarah's powerful acceptance speech at the RNC Convention: Vice Presidential Candidate Gov. Sarah Palin (AK) Full Speech at the RNC

There was no doubt about Obama winning Time's Person of the Year after he won the election. However, ponder this: If Governor Palin had somehow saved McCain from himself and was elected Vice President, would she have been Person of the Year or would Obama still have won it? Or maybe they would have had a joint Candidates People of the Year to avoid making a decision.

POTY is not an honor. It is given to the person who had the largest impact on the news in any given year.

I was watching Mary Poppins last night on ABC Family channel and it suddenly occurred to me that Sarah Palin is alot like Mary Poppins in both looks and personality. Call it silly, but she came in and brought such a breath of fresh air - I doubt that anyone was going to win on the Republican side this year, but I sure hope Republicans think long and hard about the momentum she brought and how a full campaign of her LEADING the ticket as the 2012 nominee would be possible after 4 years of Obama and “change, change, change”!

Someone says this every year and still people react as if the quarterback from their hated rival won the Heisman.

Sometimes, it really is better to be Number Two. (Not that kind.)

Not a bad article, but I laughed at this: "It was enough to make you grateful for Obama's near total lack of sentimentality and emotional transparency. We don't care how he feels; we care what he thinks and what he does."

As if we actually know what he thinks or will do!

“Who cares what a bunch of f*ing communists think?”

A publicly traded company taking advantage of every benefit in our capitalist society is communist. You heard it here folks.

It’s not an honor. From what I’ve read, Bin Laden was in the running in 2001.

Gawd, how I miss watching her take the fight to 0bama. Once she broke free from her mishandlers from the McLame camp, she was on fire every day.

Hitler once won the thing, for crying out loud. If it were an honor, wouldn’t that make Time a fascist publication? Come to think of it...:)

Thanks for posting. It is indeed a good read. And surprisingly nonpartisan for Time.
