It was the largest crowd in history to ever have witnessed a presidential inauguration.
A record-setting 1.8million people crowded on to the National Mall in Washington DC yesterday to watch Barack Obama become the first black president of the United States on the steps of the Capitol Building.
They had been waiting since dawn - some had even camped over night - in sub-zero temperatures for a ceremony full of pomp and circumstance.
But now the pomp is over, circumstances are looking a bit messy.
These pictures show not only the scale of the crowd, but the scale of the clean-up now facing Washington's street cleaners.
It looks like 1.8 million people could easily fit in the Capitol buildings three+ floors.

I watched part of the joke on C-Span2 last night. I was amazed at the amount of litter on the ground at the end. Appaernetly, these green, environmentally aware liberal Democrats think its ok to leave all of this stuff on the ground.

It will take long to pick up their mess because that’s how ‘Rats are. The government will do it for me.
With messy and disrespectful as their middle names, oh yeah, and environmentalist, I guess they can reconcile littering just as they do polluting with their private jets.

This is pretty much the view that BHO had when taking the Oath of Office... I find it ironic that one of the things he saw while looking out over the crowd was a Horse's Ass. The million people looking the other direction saw one, too.
They look like the flock that hovers over the landfill near here. Known locally as "Mount Trashmore".
