San Francisco -- Hundreds of people who watched the Academy Awards from San Francisco's Castro Theatre on Sunday night gave polite applause to "Slumdog Millionaire" - which won best picture and seven other awards - but roared with foot-stomping standing ovations for "Milk" when it took the prizes for best original screenplay and best actor.
"You commie, homo-loving sons of guns," Sean Penn told the academy upon accepting the best actor award for his portrayal of the slain San Francisco Supervisor and gay rights leader Harvey Milk. "I did not expect this, and I want it to be very clear that I do know how hard I make it to appreciate me often."
Penn acknowledged the presence of anti-gay demonstrators outside the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles and said: "I think it's a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect on their great shame and their shame in their grandchildren's eyes if they continue that support. We've got to have equal rights for everyone."
The Castro Theatre crowd was thrilled by Penn's remarks and his award.

It is interesting looking at the movies that win best picture, and even the ones nominated. Some years they are all pretty successful, and other years none of them are. Usually it takes a lot less for a movie that is competing for awards to make money. Also, they are usually only out or in more limited release before the Oscars.
This year was a real letdown. They had a chance to nominate both The Dark Knight and Wall-E which were huge critical and commercial successes, but they didn’t.
This year they did pass up the two films that made political statements in Milk and Frost/Nixon (I’m guessing anyway, haven’t seen either) to give Best Film to a love story with no stars in it.
Did anybody notice while they showed the pictures of people that had passed on that the silence was deafening when Charlton Heston’s picture went up ?

I’m talking about fairly recent films. Schindler’s LIst, Forrest Gump, Braveheart, Return of the King. And this year’s winner.
I guess an argument could be made that those are conservative films. I really would not call them that but that is in the eye of the beholder. I would also fess up that I have a hard time separating my politics from anything, so I would be the last to claim to put an unbiased spin on anything! My wife and I go as far as waiting for movies to come to the dollar show to lessen the amount the dirty commies make. Just a handful of exceptions, Passion of the Christ, and some few blockbusters, Indiana Jones, Dark Knight, etc.
One thing the homosexuals are slowly going to figure out is that they can’t simply force their lifestyle on the majority of Americans. We have now had dozens and dozens of elections in which their demand for special rights has been rejected in huge numbers by the voters (even in California!). Sometimes I honestly believe they are intentionally trying to be provocative and flamboyant in order to spur on a violent backlash. These types want nothing more than to be portrayed as victims. Thankfully typical American family has enough common sense to reject such perversion.

Charlton Heston wasn’t liberal, so, in the minds of these Hollywood idiots, he didn’t deserve any recognition that he has passed on. In their minds, his stellar movie career is meaningless because of his conservative views, the NRA presidency, etc.
Not to overstate, but in Hollywood, you have to be liberal to be tolerated by the tolerant people there.
I agree about the noxious political agenda, but popularity don't mean sh-t in terms of quality. I still find it incredible how all of the Sheeple flock to see merde like Twister, Jurassic Park II, and Meet the Fockers, or 90% of anything Will Smith has done (Pursuit of Happy-Ness and Six Degrees being two exceptions).
Oh, BTW, Wall-E (F Pixar) was Green Agenda BS.
