I am not trying to be an alarmist, but I am worried about a lot of things. I just have to imagine what the chain reaction of the current downhill slide of the world’s economies can bring. Here’s what I imagine can happen in years to come:
Pensions will go bankrupt or be a shadow of what they were before, causing millions of retirees to be broke and maybe even hungry, with no recourse. Stocks and gold will probably cross at about 3,000. Robberies of banks and citizens will increase many fold, and make the streets of big cities dangerous. The danger will cause movie theatres, night clubs and restaurants to do poor business because of citizen fears of venturing out at night. Cars not in garages or in some way protected, will be subject to theft, break ins or stolen tires and parts, especially in big cities.

The big cities, with their large numbers of out of work minorities, will become extremely dangerous places to live, and there will be an exodus to safer, small towns, by those who are able, even if it means selling a big city home at a sacrifice price, just to be safe. The infrastructure and utility providers in big cities may become insolvent or fraught with vandalism. Out of work minorities won’t be able to pay utility bills. Without electricity, gas, or water, even for a short time, life can be extremely difficult, and especially in a high-rise building or multi-storey apartment.
It will be here before you know it, thanks to obummer and his merry band on low grade morons.
I will assume you are a christian, and the Bible says that “God did not give me a spirit of fear, but of POWER, LOVE AND A SOUND MIND.” and God said “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” and the word says “I have never seen the righteous forsaken, or their seed begging bread”.
Remember that fear is the opposite of faith, and God knows if you need extra help, and he will give it. There is no evil that can claim our soul for it belongs to God, and men have no power over it, as long as we are faithful.
Now for the practical, if you are not an expert shot, and if your husband is not a gun user... then having a gun will not help you....unless it’s a shotgun and you can’t miss...but you must have the “will” to pull the trigger when threatened or the intruder can take the gun from you and use it on you. Count on your wit, and find another type of weapon that fits your circumstance. Mace is a good example, it can be sprayed in the eyes so you can run away, and is good on a single perpetrator. Have a safe room to escape to, with several deadbolts and a solid wood door...it needs a phone, and a baseball bat....make sure you can block a window or other access to it, and a way to escape it into an attic space, or another way out in case of fire. Do not panic, and do believe positively and do not fear. Have a plan, and commit it to the Lord. Know your neighbors, your area and make an alternative plan, and believe you will be successful in that plan is needed. The Bible says “be it to you according to your faith”.
We use a vacuum sealer and canisters. I highly recommend a good vac sealer. I also use an American snack master dehydrator to dry fruit meats and veggies. Then I vac seal them.
I've been canning meatballs in tomato sauce, pulled pork in BBQ sauce. I use small jars so we can eat it in a single sitting and not have to refrigerate leftovers.

Ugh, that is so depressing and disgusting. It makes me want to get the hell out of here and head for some Caribbean Island where you can grow year round, plenty of fish, crabs, lobster in the sea.

I have another question for you. I bumped this thread yet it doesn’t appear. This is the case for several other threads. Do you know why this is happening?
No I don’t know why it would do that, but give me the link in a comment and I’ll see if I can figure it out.

One good thing would be to get several books on herbal remedies.
Herbal remedies won't cure everything but they will do more than you might think.
Don't have aspirin? Get some willow bark and make a tea.
Do you know if there is a way to extend the shelf life of stuff like motrin, alleve, etc? Would refrigeration help?
