From her descriptions, it sounds like DS didn't get it

To say the least. As already noted above, in addition to other glaring errors*, she didn't even get the title correct. Sounds like she's basing her rant on a third-hand description.

*e.g. describing the variation points in the alternate-history timeline as "errors", missing the rather key point that all but one of the characters are normal humans in odd costumes rather than actual "supers"

sounds like she is afraid people might see an antigovernment message in “who watches the watchmen”.

I sometimes wonder if people on this site will ever grow up enough to discard the tired and silly "people who don't like the same entertainment I do are pro-government authoritarians" canard.

A lot of collectors were buying the Star Trek Micro Machines and keeping them in the packaging. My wife and I bought them and they ended up displayed atop or in front of computer monitors (so it looked like they were going warp speed when the screen saver came on) at the weather station on Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield.

Alan Moore can write some interesting comic books but it doesn't change the fact that he's a conspiracy minded liberal bigot. Maybe the biggest reason to hold off on seeing this movie is to deny him and Hollywood $$$.

Quote of the thread, baby!

Well, interesting enough, Moore has actually refused to profit from the movie.

Kingdom Come would be awesome. As another Freeper pointed out, It’s Miller, not Moore who did DKR and 300. Unlike Moore, Miller is something of a conservative, at least on the war on terror.

Nor can you show that he did.

Debbie’s seems to be fixated on a big blue penis swinging in her face.

<kidding>So you would be really enthusiastic about a big, blue penis swinging in your face? Or at least not notice? Been there, done that, perhaps?</kidding>

<not kidding>Someone is surprised that a superhero movie contains long stretches (no pun intended) of full frontal nudity and you think that makes them an idiot and/or a pervert? Really?</not kidding>

Do-gooders like Debbie Schlussel are no fun.

She's just expressing her opinion of the film, same as you.

The ads don’t really make it clear that the movie isn’t all that different from Xmen. It is being marketed as just another blockbuster superhero movie.

. Fifth, the Big Blue Dong is never "activated" while in sight of the reader/viewer in either the comic book or the movie, and the Supreme Court has ruled that an "unactivated" dong is not ipso facto obscene.

If you went back in time and told the Founders and Framers (especially James Madison) and told them that our highest court was actually debating the fine points of a guy's junk, do you think they'd figure we'd done a good job preserving the Republic they gave us?

So I shouldn’t be allowed to watch a movie I’ve been looking forward to for 20 years because there are bad parents out there that will let their kids watch it?!...I’m an adult, I get to go see whatever movie I want.

Can you point me to the paragraph where Schlussel proposed a government ban on this film or any other way of preventing you, as an adult, from seeing it? I must have missed it.

If you believe that came from Vladimir Ilich Lenin, you are as dumb as Debbie.

And yet we know that John adams said this:

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

And we know George Washington said this:

Of all the dispositions and habits, which lead to political prosperity, Religion, and Morality are indispensable supports.—In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of Men and Citizens.—The mere Politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them.—A volume could not trace all their connexions with private and public felicity.—Let it simply be asked where is security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths, which are the instruments of investigation in Courts of Justice? And let us with caution indulge the supposition, that morality can be maintained without religion.—Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure.—reason and experience both forbid us to expect, that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.—

’Tis substantially true, that virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government.—The rule indeed extends with more or less force to every species of Free Government.—Who that is a sincere friend to it can look with indifference upon attempts to shake the foundation of the fabric?—

But hey, what do they know?

This isn’t a story of Hollywood taking a classic comic super hero like say a superman and making him evil or dark, or applying moral relevancy to him...

Like when the latest Superman movie changed his motto to: “Truth, justice and … all of that stuff.”

And full of icky violence!

Well, ask yourself this: Resevoir Dogs and Saving Private Ryan both have graphic violence and a lot of swearing. Do you think they are of equal worth?

That post wasn’t in response to Schlussel, that was in response to Awesomepossum when he said in post 105: “Adults who frequent such garbage, in the name of being a ‘free’ adult, are contributing to the very serious decline of this nation and other nations.”

Of course Schlussel did throw in this little gem: “If you see it yourself, you’re also probably a moron and a vapid, indecent human being.” Which is exactly the kind of crap that causes those of us who like this entertainment to say the people who object are busy bodies who need to STFU and mind their own business.

She's just expressing her opinion of the film

"You are not entitled to your opinion; you are entitled to your informed opinion. If you are not informed on the subject, then your opinion counts for nothing."
--Harlan Ellison

The evidence of Ms Schlussel's uninformedness, as presented on this thread, is quite conclusive.
