Peanut butter. Great for catching squirrels in Hav-a-harts, as well. Then just drop the cage in a bucket of water and bye-bye rodents.

Peanut Butter.
If you have an ongoing problem and the trap doesn’t catch anything in a week or so, change the PB and move the trap. I find that 90% of the kills are with fresh bait.

A bit of uncooked instant oatmeal, pressed into a small amount of peanut butter.
Also, a small piece of Frito corn chip, stuck to the bait trigger with a dab of peanut butter.
To: Doogle
I like to bait the trap with peanut butter then sit in wait with ma thirty ought six rifle, with the night vision scope and oh about hundred or hundred-fifty rounds or copper jacketed hollow points movin about 1250 feet per second. You only have to wing one of the little suckas and he will get the word out to the rest of his little mice buddies.

Peanut butter on a piece of walnut. Sometimes a mouse can lick off the peanut butter without triggering the trap. With a piece of nut wedged in, they have to chew.

Any high aroma food is a good choice for bait for a mouse trap.....a drop of vanilla, maple or chocolate syrup is good bait so try a tissue or a little cotton ball (use a rubber band to anchor it to a snap trap bait holder). Caramels , jelly beans and tootsie rolls are successful as well as snickers bars and Slim Jim meat sticks.

..several years ago, I had a case of a mouse who was either very brave or stuck on stupid. He would come out in the open, stop sit and watch TV...but as soon as I moved he was gone. I got hold of a kids small play broom and had it within reach, waiting for the next appearance.
He showed up,same routine, and then I attacked....with great speed and agility, I swung, hit my wrist on the end of a coffee table, continued through the delayed pain, and promptly missed the target...by at least a foot. But it( the attack) had a good result. He flew up in the air, and by the time he came down he was either dead or passed out..he wasn't moving. He got a burial at sea.

This is the best trap I've ever used (with peanut butter I might add):

You just put a glob of peanut butter under that black cap which flips up and when they stick their noses in there it triggers the snap bar....

Bacon, preferably bacon rind. Tie it to the trigger with thread and you may never have to re bait the trap.

Okay, I’ll take the flames...but I have found that the sticky pads (get the large rat sized ones) lined along the path you think they enter your space (along a wall, under the back wall of a sink area). They work the best in that you just throw the whole ‘thing’ away.
Don’t tell me they are cruel. I did not invite the mice in; they entered my domain at their peril.
Seriously, I got rid of a small problem really quickly.

“Cash”
Well, that would probably catch me. :D
Seriously though. Peanut butter doesn’t always work, but then most things don’t. If for some reason they’re not hitting that, try a small cooked piece of sausage or bacon (not cooked till too hard). If you think the nest is in a crawlspace then you could just buy some bait packs and place them in there, either on the ground against the foundation or if it’s wet, on the sill plates. For 1500-1800 sq ft house 6-10 pack ought to do it. Most of these type baits are an anti-coagulant. If the nest is in fact in a wall, that will probably be where they die. 10-15% chance of that happening and you smelling it.
