Perhaps. The only movie I recall Fred Astaire’s character dying in is the very depressing post-apocalyptic “On the Beach.” Of course, everybody dies in it.

In the early eighties a theater on West 57th Street in Mnhattan ran a week of Astaire/Rogers movies. I’ve always liked them but the impact of seeing them on the big screen was truly magical.
