That’s right and prolly what I’d do too, but can’t really
say unless it was my last round so just sayin’ the other
thought is it’s an option with a DA (or SA) with a hammer.

Well, the XD has a restrike capability, you just have to pull the slide back 1/3rd of the way. That’s got to be easier than trying to fat-finger a hammer.

I certainly concur on the XD. I bought an XD45 after vowing never to own another semi-automatic pistol. I owned two model 1911A .45's, one a Colt Gold Cup. They were both tricky about feeding ammo and prone to jam.

The Springfield Armory XD45 will feed and fire any kind of round I put in it. It is a flawless piece of equipment, has the full-length grip and 4-inch barrel, fits my smaller hand, aims beautifully, hits my intended target and is a pleasure to shoot.

I can bet my life on the XD45, with confidence.

I have a Taurus PT 92 that works great. PT 92 fans will tell you that the Baretta is better for less than $100 more but can’t say that I am unhappy with my gun. I would recommend that you get your wife a revolver though unless she is experienced at handling guns. Semis are prone to jamming if you arenlt experienced, and they are also more likely to cause an accident.

If you are going to shoot 9x18 Makarov,
You might as well carry 13 rounds.

DA pull on the CZs aren’t bad at all: I’ve got the .45 too—they’re a lot better than the trigger on my new S&W `Smegma’, I mean, Sigma in .40.
But I can rack the slide on the P0-1 easily, & I open `impossible’ pickle jars with three fingers, as a party trick .... ;^)
Oh, I almost forgot: they all disappeared in a flash flood.
I have no guns.

I just bought a bunch of .40 cal brass and some 180 CMJ bullets. Anyone know how many grains of powder I could need to reload these?

Berretta 9000s. Very light, 10 rounds, very small, dead-on balls accurate.

As long as we're going to mention good commie milsurp guns and ammo, and since price is a consideration.....

Here's my tip of the month: there is still a great pistol and ammo deal out there waiting for you. If you have waited too long to arm up, or if you want one more, look at the excellent milsurp CZ-52 pistol and 7.62X25 Tokarev ammo.

You can get a CZ-52 for about $200 at any gun show or at many gun stores. The ammo can be had for as low as 11 cents a bullet in any quantity you want. Extra mags are from $12 to $20 each.

The milsurp ammo is full metal jacket, firing an 85gr bullet at 1,600fps. These will go through car doors, kevlar helmets, kevlar vests etc like an icepick through butter. OTOH, they will also go through one bad guy and maybe hit a good guy behind him.

However, you can buy hollowpoints ("Wolf Gold" with brass shells) for about $19/50, or half the price of comparable 9mm JHPs. My test "Wolf Gold" JHP ammo expanded to .60 caliber, the same as my test 9mm JHPs.

So for $400, you could buy a CZ-52, 1,500 rounds of assorted ammo, and a few extra mags. OR, you could buy about 2/3s of a "brand name" pistol, and no ammo.

It's just a thought. This is a great bargain. The ammo is cheap and plentiful at all of the internet catalog sites. Don't wait, the libtards will soon slam the door on foreign gun and ammo imports, and the prices will go way up.

Another benefit of this pistol is that it is very accurate, with very fine sights. WIth this flat-shooting ammo, you can hit at 100 yards with ease. Downsides are brittle firing pins (buy a spare, and don't dry fire) and a decocking function that you should not trust. Just lower the SA hammer like a 1911. The safety works like a 1911, so if you are used to 1911s, it will be very easy to use the CZ-52

Our local gun store recommended a S&W 38 Revolver for me as a ladies handgun, but it really had an extreme kick & gave me lots of blisters. I finally decided to look for something else & ended up purchasing a Kahr CW9 for $459. I like it a lot & my sweetie likes it better than his Walther PPS. I’ll still practice with the revolver, but the Kahr is definitely nice.

A 38 special is a superb carry gun.

Do not shoot 158 gr in an airweight.

Way too much recoil.

Shoot 110 gr DPX in airweights

Yes. I have had three, a 9mm metal (which a “relative” in the state was given), a 9mm polymer (which I carry), and a 40S&W (which I have never felt confident in its reliability to feed ammunition). Had no problems with either of the 9’s, the metal frame is (not surprisingly) a bit more easy to shoot accurately.

Unfortunately, I don’t know where they are now.
