Yes, more and more people show up for interviews like this, for customer service and possibly managerial jobs.

The most frequent question from most is about salary and hours. This "group"'s first question is always "are the tattoos/piercings a problem?".

Maybe it's the look my my face.

I’d suggest a position as an MRI Technician.

Are you SERIOUS?

YOU see this coming in for a job?

What do YOU say to them?

Why don't they just become drug dealers?

Or join a freak show? There they could be employed indefinitely. Ideally they should be locked up. This is nor normal to mutilate yourself like this. If they do that to themselves, imagine what they will do for YOU?

Guess we'll need a law saying you have to view this as normal too and not to “discriminate”?

I recently was on assignment at a financial services company. A person in my department is covered with tattoos on his neck and arms. I’m amazed they hired him.

I’m reminded of those Hellraiser movies. I think the guy in the movies was less creepy though.

What’s funny is most of these folks are probably happily employed in a profession they love. I know several folks like this and they all own their own businesses and are sucessful. Sometimes uniqueness works.

I’ve heard some talk of people being discriminated against due to appearance in jobs. This could be the next big “civil rights” cause. You can see why employers would reject people for jobs in customer service or anything dealing with the public. Such extreme appearance is a reflection on a business.

I can imagine the legal arguments now. They will say that everyone has a right to self expression, and that such extreme appearance has no bearing on how well somebody can do a job, thus should not be a factor in hiring. Thus, if you do consider their personal appearance, you are discriminating.

Don’t laugh too much. I expect to see this become something the ACLU will take up at some point. Let them first shove same-sex marriage and expose all of our state secrets, such as this inane torture memo/photo lawsuit, and then they will move on to the tattoos and piercings lawsuits.

The IT guy in one of our buildings has a mohawk and tats all over. The story goes was that he wasn’t like that when first hired. Plus management knows he’s a whiz when it comes to networking and cable connections that they also know if they fired him...well, IT guys are the worst people to fire.

Sometimes uniqueness works.

I agree. Provencetown, Cape Cod, MA comes to mind where these people could succeed. San Francisco is another example.

Flyover country is not the hotbed of success for these folks.

The ACLU would LOVE to defend this. They specialize in defending perversion so this would fit in with their philosophy. Someone is going to challenge this and open Pandora's Box.

The guy with the knives was probably boarding flights to San Francisco on a regular basis prior to 911. However, now, he would have to have a signed affadavit from his lawyer that he was indeed a liberal, leftist, flaming homosexual, rabid, anti-Christian, pit bull-loving, paedophile and it would be okay for him to travel.

I had a conversation with a waitress in the local Perkins about her appearance. I told her how lucky she was that the manager was cool about hiring her, looking like that, and asked if she got strange looks from customers.

She said that the manager WAS cool but made her take out most of her face piercings and cover her ‘inappropriate’ tattoos.

I told her that i thought she was a sweet girl, but I would never... not in a million years... hire her. And she said that she got that a lot from people she interviewed with for a ‘real’ job.

It's just the Man, man - he's keepin' ya down, man.

The real problem with HMO's is that you never know what you're getting when you make your appointment. So in I go for my colonscopy and one of these guys turns up and sez, "Bend over, Mr. Drill. Pain is good fer ya." And I sez, "Doc, I know it's a lifestyle choice but I don't think pointed metal studs are supposed to go there...WOOOOOGAH!"

It's whut I gits fer bein' narrow-minded, I guess...

Everytime I see people like these folks, I just want to cry. I have a very dear relative who has lead a very hard, heartbreaking life because she had the misfortune of being born with a deep colored port wine stain birthmark on her face. She suffered job wise because of her looks (lasers cannot completely erradicate the extraneous blood vessels and she wears a heavy makeup to try and camoflage the birthmark that is left). She would have given anything to not have spent a life ‘dealing’ with this; and these idiots take the gift of ‘normalcy’ and makes themselves freaks...life is never fair.

I can’t say anything snarky or funny...it just strikes me as so ironic.

No by they aren’t big brother dependent like some think. I take it by your screen name you are in the same neck of the woods I am in. I can direct you to an auto body shop that is top notch and the owner looks like these folks but is an artist and professional in his work. True they wouldn’t make it in the normal business world but they found what they are good at and they work their a**! Off at it. Better individual initiative than depandent on others.
