It is safe to assume that such men as Joe DiMaggio, Tom Henrich and Crosetti, who went hitless, have no particular liking for night baseball. Tomorrow being an off day, the players will have plenty of time to discuss the pros and cons. The lighting system, erected at a cost of $105,000 is said to be the best in the majors. However, the vote from this corner still goes to Ebbets Field. There are shadows here at the rim of the field.

BASEBALL PING LIST
If you would like to be on the ping list let me know.
This will be a medium volume ping list during the baseball season and a low volume ping list when all life stops in late October.

The box scores look pretty much the same. There is something comforting about that.

It all seems so normal as we know that the world is about to go over the edge.

Thank you. It’s fun to see all the HOF names in the box scores and leader lists: DiMaggio, Dickey, Grove, Williams, Foxx, Cronin, Greenberg, Gehringer, Mize, Medwick, et al.

This was about a year before I was born. Fun to see the names of many future Hall of Fame players.
Thanks,
BG

Has anyone noticed that the write ups then used complex sentences, good grammar and were easy to read? These days, the reporters write to sixth grade level readers, and the editing is so poor you think that they must only use spell check and print!

These days, the reporters write to sixth grade level readers . . .I think the writing in 1939 was aimed at the same grade level as now, it's just that now the grade levels are dumbed down. Read the editorials and letters to the editor I posted Thursday for a good sampling of the writing style and reader comprehension of that time. (The title is "Spend and Spend.")
