DALLAS — Police said they found a 3 1/2-week-old infant stabbed and decapitated in a Texas home on Sunday and his mother "screaming that she killed her baby" after the devil told her to do it.
The mother, Otty Sanchez, 33, of San Antonio, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition with self-inflicted stab wounds to her chest and stomach, said San Antonio police spokesman Joe Rios.
Investigators took a sword, a machete and a kitchen knife from the home.

The devil may tell you to jump off a cliff but you are still in control of your own body and have a responsibility to control yourself.
Blaming the devil is nothing more than passing off personal responsibility to something intangible and unproven.
This is certainly a common opinion of those whose lives and families have not been rocked by serious mental illness of organic origin. A lot of people in this position believe it to be a purely moral issue and that the best of the psychiatric field are mere quacks. For the rest, it is often miraculous to see how a small pill, which has had virtually no side effects upon the healthy when it was tested, can make these “demons” go away.

Mental health problems like this were no less prevalent decades ago when abortion was viewed as an unconscionable evil by almost all of America.

The defense lawyers will rush to her defense and she will be declared not guilty.
According to many liberals, she had up until the baby was two years old to abort it.
Instead of charging this mother with murder, the pro-aborts will want the abortion laws extended. To them. this mother had "the right" to protect her own mental health first. According to Oboma, she was being punished by the child, and it was justified self defense.
This is a classic example of what the culture of death is doing to this country. Even the most innocent of the innocent are now the targets.

I know you asked this question of politicalmerc but here is my take on it. Insane or sane, a person who commits a crime like this should be put to death. My opinion and I stand by it.
"The devil made me do it" is used a lot for the insanity defense. If she acts crazy, she thinks she may get off.
Gut instinct? She had a temper tantrum because the baby was too much work. She killed it, and had to come up with some kind of quick excuse.
Oh yeah. I see welfare checks, too. This baby didn't stand a chance.

His brother had stopped taking his medication and one afternoon he butchered his mother and sister in the kitchen and went upstairs to his room and went to sleep. He didn't even clean himself up. He said the devil tormented him into killing them.
His father discover red the bodies and my friends brother is now an inmate at a prison for the criminally insane. He was absolutely convinced that the devil made him kill them. My friend believes it as well.
These things happen. Some people are insane and can not be held responsible for their actions while in the state of insanity. They do, however, need to be removed from society for both the protection of society and of themselves.

I have come to the same conclusion myself. Mainly because the Bible does not give exceptions in the law to anyone who is mentally ill. Juveniles, yes, and perhaps by extension, the severely retarded who are essentially juveniles.
There is the further problem that mental illness can be feigned or exaggerated and used as an excuse. Who is truly sane when they murder another person? Is murder ever a sane act?
I do believe there is such a thing as insanity. But I believe the laws should apply to everyone, regardless of our sanity.
If I remember correctly Geraldo worked for NBC News and he did this huge expose of the terrible conditions at some asylums and this led to them being shut down as inhumane.
This is an incredibly sad tale.
The mother is certainly insane, no doubt about it.
If she ever regains sanity and realizes what she did she will wish she was dead.... no hope for her that I can see.

Prayers for the baby. I read these stories & wonder where are the people around her? Did nobody notice she was acting strange or that she had issues? I can’t believe nobody knew she didn’t have any problems. I hope she is never allowed near another baby again. I favor the death penalty & even for those with mental problems.
To be honest, if, being sane, she killed her baby in a fit of anger or in an accident, she would have devised another way to explain its death. I do not believe any sane person could use a saw, a sword, and a kitchen knife to saw off the head of a baby. A sane person could not engage in such an activity.
Actually, I failed to make myself clear. I have some professional experience with schizophrenia, and have seen it up close and personal in a distant family member. I have a reasonable understanding of the etiology of schizophrenia, to the extent that current research has identified. Yes, it's extraordinary what good medication can do.
But I am also a Christian with some fundamentalist leanings, and I believe that Satan, the devil of hell, can work in these situations. That does not mean I believe, as other posters do, that someone who does such a thing should "go straight to hell." Perhaps only God Himself can decide on culpability in such cases.
