lol
You said to another FReeper — OK .. assuming that might be true ... I use AVG freeware ... what can be done to look and see in my puter and clean it?

If you’re referring to the following and what Jim Robinson referred to as a DOS attack, and in terms of Free Republic...
Denial-of-service attack
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack
then... there’s nothing you need to do. That attack is not on your computer but the computer that runs the website. You can do nothing about it, affect nothing in regards to it, and protect nothing in regards to it. In fact, there’s *absolutely nothing* you can do about it.
But, Jim Robinson may be able to do something about it... it’s just that you won’t be able to do anything about it (and don’t need to, either...).
All you need to do is wait for Jim Robinson to get done what he needs to get done, in order to get the site working again.
LOL..., a blast from the past...
But, that’s what Jim called it... :-)
Isn’t there a Canadian FreeRepublic too?
You said — Isnt there a Canadian FreeRepublic too?

Well..., there’s a Canadian board that is supposed to be similar to Free Republic (i.e., conservative and a forum to post and discuss things on).
Free Dominion

OK .. thanks, Star Traveler
JimRob says he is being attacked...He said it is a DOS attacks.
Don’t take my word for it. Have someone who’s very knowledgable check it out.
My SIL is an IT guy and he usually checks my PC out every so often. I use AVAST (free) virus protection and Spybot for the other stuff.
Have you done a de-frag and disk clean, gotten rid of usused/un-necessary programs/files?
Maybe we could ask the to post information on “what happened” when FreeRepublic goes down... an alternative information site.
Do we have any idea who would do a Denial-of-service attack against FreeRepublic? Is it dems?

Free Republic’s *official alternate site* is...
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freerepublic2/
Jim Robinson will post there, when something is wrong and give updates if necessary.

Everyone can guess all they want, but most likely no one will ever know. I’ve heard the Chinese have a government agency that deals with this sort of stuff, to take down infrastructure and other such information sources in our country. They could be practicing right now.
Also, there’s the North Koreans, too. And then the Russians are supposed to be real good at this, too, but I hear they’re into “money’ for doing these things and spamming for businesses. So, the Russians are into it for “business”... :-)
But, the Chinese and North Koreans are probably into it for political and warfare reasons. But, the Russians may be into it for that reason, too, as they shut down a country in Eastern Europe not too long ago (i.e., “Internet infrastructure”)...
The bottom line is that you’ll never find out who it was...
