I wouldn't call myself an "expert" on Enoch, but I do very strongly recommend that those who are interested in the ancient manuscripts ignore the old translations (pre-DSS) and New Agey interpretations on-line and instead refer to the scholarly work in Charlesworth's Pseudepigrapha.

What is your opinion of the translation found in The New Jerusalem Bible?

I have not compared the Ephraim Issac translation of Enoch (Charlesworth's Pseudepigrapha circa 1983) to the Catholic New Jerusalem Bible circa 1985.

However, the Catholic Encyclopedia commentary references the Charles translation circa 1893 - obviously long before the Dead Sea Scrolls discovery. This leads me to suspect the NJB translation of 1 Enoch is Charles'.

Again, I recommend Charlesworth's Pseudepigrapha for those looking for the most current, scholarly translation - comparing phrase by phrase via footnotes - the ancient 1 Enoch (Ethiopic) texts themselves as well as Charles' translation et al. Charlesworth's Pseudepigrapha also includes 2 Enoch (Slavonic) and Enoch (Hebrew.)

There just isn't a basis for comparison of his work to a single book translation.

To me, it DOES NOT MATTER whether UFO critters are fallen angels or citizens of distant planets or other dimensions. The critical issue is are they on satan’s side in setting up and supporting the global government. Clearly, THEY ARE.

I've taken the same stance when talking to people about this: "It doesn't matter whether they are aliens who once masqueraded as angels and gods or angels who now masquerade as aliens--what matters is what their actions tell us about them. And their actions all scream that they are malevolent, arrogant, and deceptive."
